PUNCIN ST CLAIR WINS LATEMODEL FEATURE; HIGHT CHEVROLET 100 POSTPONED AT WISCASSET <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Defending Late Model champion Puncin St Clair of Liberty turned around a disappointing start to the 2007 season with a strong wire to wire victory Saturday night at Wiscasset Raceway. St Clair outran Jeff Burgess and then held off a strong charge from Bob Seiger Jr to post the victory in his #14 Viking Lumber and Dave’s World sponsored Pontiac.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Six of seven divisions managed to get in their scheduled races Saturday night at Maine’s fastest track before severe thunderstorms moved into the midcoast area around 8:30pm. Flashing lightning and darkening skies made for an interesting backdrop to the 30 lap Late Model feature. Rain then began to fall as the final class of the evening, the Super Streets, rolled onto the track for the Hight Chevrolet 100. Track management made the quick decision to postpone the 100 lap race until the following weekend. Other winners on the evening were Jefferson’s Ed Peirpont in the Strictly Streets; Pittston’s Shawn Kimball in the Stock Mini’s; Kristy Millay of Palermo in the Ladies Division; Tyler Tibbetts of Montville in the Teen Division; and Jacob Dore of Sanford in the NELCAR Legends. The other highlight of the day was something that happened off the track as Farmingdale businessman and former Wiscasset competitor Doug White and his wife Becky reached an agreement with the David & Sandra St Clair to purchase Wiscasset Raceway. The track has been under the guidance of the St Clair family since 1990. White, who will complete the sale process by the middle of September, stressed that he has no plans to make significant changes. The sale and transition of ownership will be complete by mid September. Wiscasset Raceway will return to action Saturday June 9 th<\/sup> with a special 5:00pm start time. The makeup 100 lap Super Street race will begin the show with the regularly scheduled program to follow, which will include a 25 lap Ladies Division feature. In the double point 30 lap Late Model feature, defending division champ Puncin St Clair took advantage of a front row starting position  <\/span>and set a fast pace early with fellow veteran Jeff Burgess of Fairfield a car length behind. A minor spin would bunch up the field on lap nine and set up a good battle for third position between Nick Reno, Josh St Clair and Bob Seiger Jr. The second and final caution of the race would fly on lap thirteen as the lapped car of Seth Raven slid sideways through turn two. As he tried to checkup to correct it, he made contact with Randy Turner, sending him across the track into the path of Reno & St Clair. While Raven was able to drive away, the other three went into the back stretch wall. Reno and Turner were done for the night. On the ensuing restart Seiger followed a strong start by Puncin St Clair and jumped into the 2nd<\/sup> position ahead of Burgess. Through the second half of the race point leader Chris Thorne moved up into the 4th<\/sup> position, but had nothing for the lead trio. Rookie Kevin Sherman also moved into the 5th<\/sup> spot to notch his 4th<\/sup> top five finish in five races. The 20 lap Strictly Street feature had an exciting finish as point leader Maurice Young and Ed Peirpont drove the final lap door to door. The two made contact coming through turn four to the checkers and Peirpont took the win for his 3rd<\/sup> victory of the season. Young, with four win of his own, settled for 2 nd<\/sup>. Former champ Mike Moody of Bath took 3rd<\/sup>. Defending Stock Mini champ Shawn Kimball of Pittston was a wire-to-wire winner in the 20 lap Mini feature. Dylan Lancaster of Skowhegan turned in a season best 2nd<\/sup> place finish, holding off a hard charging Kevin Douglas for the runner-up trophy. Douglas moved up from 23rd<\/sup> to finish 3rd<\/sup>. Tyler Tibbetts of Montville made a late move to grab the lead on the final lap and win the 10 lap Teen division feature. Ed Sleeper of Vassalboro matched a career best finish with a 2nd<\/sup> place run. Thomas True of Wiscasset, who led the first seven laps finished 3rd<\/sup>. Kristy Millay of Palermo notched her 3rd<\/sup> win of the season in the 10 lap Ladies division feature. She was chased across the line by point leader Marje Albert of Chelsea and Carol Wilson of Chelsea. For Wilson, it was her first top three finish. In the 25 lap NELCAR Legend feature Jacob Dore of Sanford grabbed the lead early and held off Bob Weymouth of Topsham and Chris Seavey of Windham to grab his 2nd<\/sup> win of the season.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n
