This time he wouldn’t be denied. Lining up from the pole position for the 20 lap Strictly Street feature, Mesimer would set the early pace with multi time winner Ed Peirpont to his outside and defending champ Dave Brannon behind him. While Brannon slipped out of contention, Peirpont kept the pressure on as point leader Maurice Young made his customary charge from the back of the pack. It took just six laps for Young to make it from 8th to 2nd and try to chase down the leader. Mesimer’s three car length lead was erased by the mid point of the race and Young moved the outside to challenge for the lead and his 5th win of the year. After trying several tries Young couldn’t make the outside pass work and then moved in to try to rattle Mesimer’s concentration over the final five laps. Mesimer would hold steady and protect the inside line and hold off the five time champ to the checkers in his #3 Reds Eats sponsored Chevy Monte Carlo. Young would settle for 2nd on Mesimer’s back bumper and Peirpont settled for 3rd. Chris Thorne of Sidney became the first repeat winner in the Late Model Sportsman division, leading the 30 lap double point feature wire to wire. The win also extended his point lead in Wiscasset’s top division. Veteran racer’s Steve Reny and Peter Oakes, both from Boothbay, joined Thorne in Victory Lane. Reny raced his way from 8th to 2nd for the runner-up trophy. Oakes nearly caught Reny, but settled for 3rd after starting 14th. R.J. Austin of Smithfield continued his torrid pace in Wiscasset’s Super Street division. Austin inherited the lead with two laps to go in the 20 lap feature after the lead pair of Adam Chadbourne and Allen Moeller tangled on a restart. From there he easily dispatched Mac Hannan Jr on the restart to grab his 2nd win of 2007. Austin has finished no worse than 2nd (two wins & five 2nd’s) in his first seven races this season. Hannan finished 2nd followed by Brian Fortin of China in 3rd. Skowhegan’s Dylan Lancaster was awarded the win in the 20 lap Stock Mini feature after Rob Greenleaf failed post race inspection. Greenleaf took the lead from Dan Somes of Sidney near the midpoint of the race and crossed the line first ahead of Dylan Lancaster and Somes. Lancaster, who passed Somes for position in the final turn, had the move payoff with his first win of the season. Somes would be awarded 2nd and Lancaster’s brother Bryan Lancaster took home the 3rd place trophy. In the 10 lap Teen division feature Cody Sleeper of Chelsea raced to the finish line under caution and checkers to grab his first career win. Sleeper’s brother Ed had held the lead for the first 9 laps when a spinning car brought out a caution on the final lap. Natasha Dyer of Arrowsic would sneak in to take the 2nd place finish and Ed Sleeper would settle for 3rd. Cassandra St Clair of Liberty picked up her 2nd win of the season in the 10 lap Ladies division double point feature. Kristy Millay of Palermo and point leader Marje Albert of Chelsea chased her across the line. Jacob Dore of Sandford made it two straight win in the NELCAR Legend 25 lap feature. Bob Weymouth of Topsham drove his backup car to a nice 2nd place finish and Josh Leach of Islesboro took 3rd.

OFFICIAL FINISHES 6/16/07

LATE MODEL SPORTSMAN (30 LAPS)

1.
