(Jan. 11, 2008) – While the recent January thaw may have put a dent in the region's snow cover, it hasn't dampened the enthusiasm of snowmobile racers. After their debut at the Snow Ridge ski resort on New York's famed Tug Hill Plateau, Rock Maple Racing's (RMR) West series teams will journey to Bob Pawlowski's Pit-X track in Verona on Jan. 19-20, for Round 3 on the nine-race 2007-08 snocross schedule. <\/span>

Gates will open at 8 a.m. both days, with racing action getting under way at 9 a.m. sharp. Admission is $12 per day for adults, or $20 for a weekend pass. Children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes will be available for an extra $10.
In addition to a full slate of West series action, fans will also enjoy watching Pro and Semi-Pro teams from RMR's Central series battle in their fifth points race of the season. Along with the high-flying Pro and Semi-Pro riders, RMR also features a large number of Sport, Women and Junior division teams. These riders put forth just as much effort as the Pros, and enjoy a wholesome, family-oriented weekend in the process. Add a special smaller track just for children ages 6 through 10 who compete on the 120cc machines, and you've got a fun-filled weekend for all ages.
Leading the charge into Snow Ridge are Pro riders Matt and Greg Rudd. The brother act from Rodman, NY, finished one-two in the Pro open final on Dec. 9, 2007 in Round 1 for the West series. Logan Neill, of Almond, NY, claimed second in Pro Stock, while Greg Rudd was third. Defending West series Pro champion Eddie Hawkins got off to a slow start at Windham, and will be gunning for redemption at Pit-X. Hawkins finished fourth in Pro Stock at Windham and was notably absent from the final in Pro Open.
Last year in Verona, Hawkins powered his Ski-doo past Billy Turner and Canadian racer Ric Wilson to claim the Pro Stock final, while Turner reigned supreme in Pro Open. Hawkins, of Marion, NY, topped his weekend with a strong third place finish in Pro Open.
Jerry Slade romped to a victory in the Amsoil Pro Am final, with Pennsylvania's Robert Grunden second and fellow New York rider Paul Deruyter third. RMR veteran Cindy Regimbald of Rutland, VT, earned top honors in the Pro Women’s final. In Semi-Pro action, AJ Bogino, Jonathan Sloot and Will Lux all posted wins in some hotly-contested finals. Bogino, of Webster, NY, held off David Duchnik and Cory Ostrander to claim the 440 class; Sloot, of Arkell, Ontario, out-distanced Duchnik and Aaron Shelton in a wild 600 class battle while Lux, of Westernville, NY, held off a hard-charging Bogino and David Livingston to claim the Semi-Pro Open final.
To get to the Pit-X track, take Exit 33 off the New York State Thruway onto Rte. 365 East. When you see the Greenway-New London road on the left, take that and take your second left onto the Sholtz Road. You’ll see signs to the track from there.
Rock Maple Racing is the eastern affiliate of the World Powersports Association (WPSA), the national sanctioning body for snocross racing.
