{"id":2211,"date":"2010-09-21T15:23:01","date_gmt":"2010-09-21T15:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/maineracer.com\/wp\/?p=2211"},"modified":"2010-09-21T15:23:01","modified_gmt":"2010-09-21T15:23:01","slug":"results-from-sept-17th-at-lee-usa-speedway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/maineracing.com\/legacy\/2010\/09\/results-from-sept-17th-at-lee-usa-speedway\/","title":{"rendered":"RESULTS FROM SEPT 17th AT LEE USA SPEEDWAY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p \/>Lee USA Speedway closed out the 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late<br \/> Model championship season on Friday night, and Wayne Helliwell, Jr. put an<br \/> exclamation point on his title run by scoring feature win number eight of<br \/> the season in the E Keys 4 Cars 25-lapper.<\/p>\n<p> Helliwell was easily the class of the field and led flag to flag in the<br \/> Bruce Bernhardt Ford to pick up the victory, with Pat Floyd finishing a<br \/> distant second. \u00a0Bobby Baillargeon, Steve Knowlton, and Tom Fuller rounded<br \/> out the top five finishers.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p> Tommy Tombarello, Jr. held a slim one-point lead over Billy Osborne in the<br \/> Small Block Super point standings headed into the night, and he hung onto<br \/> the top spot with a solid second place run in the feature event, giving him<br \/> his first career championship crown.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;Super Dave&#8221; Sanborn took advantage of a late-race caution to sneak past<br \/> Tombarello and score the win, with P.J. Stergios moving up late to grab<br \/> third. \u00a0Dan Bowes, Osborne, Mike Netishen, Mike Caswell, Butch Valley, Jr.,<br \/> Tony Carroll, and Mike Spurling were the rest of the top ten.<\/p>\n<p> Grant Aither looked like he was well on the way to another victory to cap<br \/> off his 2010 Prime Storage Late Model Sportsman championship run, but brake<br \/> problems late in the race forced him off the pace. \u00a0Aither still easily led<br \/> all drivers at the track in feature wins for the year.<\/p>\n<p> Ryan Green took advantage of the champ&#8217;s mechanical woes and grabbed his<br \/> first career Late Model Sportsman feature win over J.R. Baril. \u00a0Tony<br \/> Kawejsza scored third, with Ron Bolduc, Jimmy Russell, Michele Fushpanski,<br \/> Aither, Jesse Bousquet, Bill Ahern, and Josh Ball next in the finishing<br \/> order.<\/p>\n<p> Points leader Todd Bregy got caught up in a wreck early in the Picnic Table<br \/> Factory Hobby Stock main event, forcing him to watch from the sidelines as<br \/> the final race of the year finished up. \u00a0Bregy accepted the championship<br \/> accolades in a post-race ceremony minus his racecar.<\/p>\n<p> Stephen Dubois and Jim Piaseczny were battling hard for the lead most of the<br \/> way through the race, but Randy Carmichael slipped under the two to take the<br \/> lead just before the checkers waved. \u00a0It was Carmichael&#8217;s first-career win.<\/p>\n<p> Patrick Tanguay rebounded from the same early-race incident that eliminated<br \/> Bregy to finish second, followed by Piaseczny, Dubois, Steve Douphinette,<br \/> Rob MacRae, Chris Jacobson, Niko Manyati, and Scott Bregy.<\/p>\n<p> The David&#8217;s Race Cars and Components Roadrunners ran twin feature events for<br \/> championship night, with Steve Nichols taking down his first career Lee<br \/> checkered in the opening race, and young Shaun Waites, Jr. grabbing his<br \/> second win of the year in the nightcap.<\/p>\n<p> Lloyd Chapin scored a second and a third place finish in the two races to<br \/> lock down the 2010 Roadrunner championship, bringing car owner Paul Brown<br \/> and the Full Throttle Racing crew out to victory lane in full force to help<br \/> celebrate the title.<\/p>\n<p> Jack Victoria was the only champion other than Helliwell who padded his win<br \/> total on championship night, running off to his sixth win of the year in the<br \/> Ironman feature event. \u00a0Victoria was followed by Kyle Roy, Sean Martin, Glen<br \/> Billings, and Jason Hodgdon.<\/p>\n<p> The New England Antique Racers entertained the crowd with close to 20 cars<br \/> taking to the track for their portion of the program, and the Northeast<br \/> Classic Lites were on hand as well, with George Helliwell taking his second<br \/> win of the year over Jimmy Ryder, Jr. and Eddie Gilman.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lee USA Speedway closed out the 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model championship season on Friday night, and Wayne Helliwell, Jr. put an exclamation point on his title run by scoring feature win number eight of the season in the E Keys 4 Cars 25-lapper.
