PASS North at Beech Ridge: Staples seals the Deal <\/strong><\/p>\n

Scarborough ME (May 2) Chris Staples  took the lead  from DJ Shaw on lap 129 of Saturday’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North super late model feature at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and led the final 21 laps to earn his first PASS super late model  win. The 2007 PASS Mod champ beat Adam Bates to the stripe by 1.022 seconds .Kelly Moore finished third, Shaw faded to fourth and Derek Ramstrom raced home fifth.<\/p>\n

Matt Frahm and Derek Ramstrom lined up on the front row and Ramstrom took control of the thirty-one car field early on.  Ramstrom ran away from the field for the first third of the race with Cassius Clark up to second and Staples sitting third.  Shaw began his run to the front on a lap 48 restart, making  an impressive outside move from fourth to the lead in the course of three laps. Shaw led the way for the next 79 laps, but Staples was lurking in second, waiting patiently to pull the trigger on his Dallas Oil number five. The opportunity came on the race’s final restart on lap 129 as Staples held his ground on the outside and worked his way around Shaw for his first PASS super late model win. <\/p>\n

Cassius Clark, Johnny Clark, Ben Rowe, Aaron Ricker and Marty Prevost finished in positions six thru ten. Eighteen of the thirty one starters finished on the lead lap. Matt Frahm, Derek Ramstrom and Johnny Clark were the heat winners; Bill Rogers and Scott Chubbuck captured the consolation rounds.<\/p>\n

Dan McKeage and Mike Landry staged a battle for the 75 lap PASS Sportsman win, and in the end it was 2007 Sportsman Champion McKeage in victory lane, Landry a close second and Clyde Hennessey Jr. third. Shane Tatro and Nate Leavitt completed the top five. Richie Morse, Nate Weston and Mike Landry won the heat races.<\/p>\n

Gary Norris took the lead from the pole in the 40 lap PASS Mod feature and was never headed. Andy Shaw chased Norris to the checkers for second and Jerry Harrison earned third with Dan Somes fourth and Glenn Bradbury fifth. Norris and Somes won the qualifying races.<\/p>\n

 PASS South super late model competitor Jay Fogleman made the trip north to check out the Ridge in preparation for the September 12-13 PASS 300 weekend, round two of the PASS National Championship series.  Fogleman picked up a ride in Scott Reed’s PASS Mod, but a cut tire ended his charge to the front in the Mod feature. <\/p>\n
