Lee, NH. (April 13, 2009) — "It's a good idea, all of it, with the economy
like this," said car owner Dave Callahan," I commend Lee management for
making it happen with the way things are." Callahan was reacting to the
streamlining of this years small block supermodified schedule at Lee USA
Speedway.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The move to trim the schedule and race every other week was agreed upon
favorably by those that own and maintain the high flying winged racers.<\/p>\n
Callahan has seen his race team sit atop the standings the last two years
with driver Eddie Witkum claiming back to back championships. When cash got
tight this winter, so did the financial support. "It cost a lot of money to
run these things and I lost all my sponsors, every one of them," said the
veteran car owner. Callahan, during the winter months, thought he was done
until he heard of the new format, additional purse money, 14 races, the
proposed every other week schedule, a new series sponsor., P.B Chopper Shop
and Rods, Londonderry, NH;. and guidance from long time race organizer Russ
Conway.<\/p>\n
It was enough to create renewed interest and get those that race in the
division talking about it.<\/p>\n
The move by track management has created a stir. So much that new faces and
some old ones will dot the lineup this season. The 50 lap "Shootout" in July
has drawn a lot of interest including a scheduled appearance by Indy 500
veteran, and legendary supermodified driver Bentley Warren. Warren plans to
compete in this year's race.<\/p>\n
