Humane Society

LOUDON, N.H. (July 5, 2012) – There’s nothing like curling up on the couch to watch a NASCAR race with your best friend, especially when that best friend has four legs, a tail and eyes that make your heart melt. From June 15-30, New Hampshire Motor Speedway gave a pair of tickets to anyone adopting a dog from the New Hampshire Humane Society in Laconia. A total of 19 canines were adopted over the two-week span and now those adoptees will be given tickets to come out to the track to root on the stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series when they return to “The Magic Mile” for the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 on July 15.

One of those stars will be Ryan Newman, whose charity – the Ryan Newman Foundation – teamed up with New Hampshire Motor Speedway to give a $1,000 donation to the NHHS during a promotional event back on June 13.

“For many people, dogs are an important part of their respective families,” says Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager. “Just walking the grounds here during race-week, I’ve seen firsthand the types of bonds that NASCAR fans and the drivers have with their dogs. It is really rewarding to be involved in helping find good homes and families for these dogs.”

Canines adopted from the N.H. Humane Society will now be living in the New Hampshire towns of Salisbury, Gilmanton, Laconia, Plymouth, Hill, Loudon, Nottingham, Alton Bay, Sanbornton, Washington and Tuftonboro. There were also two adoptions from the Massachusetts towns of Stoneham and Framingham.

“New Hampshire Humane Society is the fourth-highest adopting shelter in New England. We were thrilled that New Hampshire Motor Speedway laid down an initiative to help us find homes for even more dogs,” says Marylee Gorham-Waterman, development director at the New Hampshire Humane Society. “Of the 19 dogs that found homes, the majority were indeed saved from euthanasia – having travelled north to the Granite State, where they very quickly found their forever homes.”

Even if you were unable to take advantage of our adopt-a-pet giveaway, you can still get your tickets to the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 and SYLVANIA 300 NASCAR weekends, please stop by our Ticket Office, visit the speedway website at www.nhms.com, or call our Ticket Hotline at (603) 783-4931.

19 Canines Adopted in 15 Days from N.H.
