Speedway95NEW WINNERS HIGHLIGHT WACKY WEDNESDAY FINALE

Two new faces appeared in victory lane Wednesday night at Speedway 95 and two other drivers ended long winless streaks as the 2015 Varney Buick-GMC-Mazda Wacky Wednesday season came to a close.

In the Road Runners, Keith Drost of Stetson took the lead from Bradley’s Sam Betts on lap 17 of the 20 lap feature and won his first race of the season, besting a field of 37 cars that was reduced to less than 20 at the finish. The red flag flew three times during the race, the last time on lap 12 in an incident that sent three drivers to the hospital for observation. Steve Kimball of Holden also got by Betts in the closing laps to finish second with Betts finishing third. Fourth went to Abel Leamur of Winterport with Michael Palmer of Winterport finishing fifth. Speedway95Speedway 95 News Release 08-22-15

(Hermon, Me) The rain in the forecast held off for another evening of racing at Speedway 95 in Hermon Saturday Night August 22nd.

After a runner-up finish in the qualifier, Bobby Seger, Jr. of Winterport found the right set-up for the feature, driving what he called in victory lane, the fastest car he has ever driven. Despite a back and forth side-by-side race with Jordan Pearson of Hermon for the first few laps of the series race in the third and final Cassella Waste Street division Pine Tree Waste series race, Seger used lapped traffic to grab the top spot and bury the field to the checkered flag. The commanding win for Seger secured for him the series championship. Pearson finished second with Asa Jones of Sullivan finishing third.

The Darlings Ford Sportsmen series went caution free for both the heat and the feature with Holden’s Steve Kimball taking the top spot. Shane Tatro of Levant finished in the second position with rookie Trey Brown of Winteport crossing the line for third. Both the heat and the feature went caution free.

Hampden’s Travis Beale survived five restarts in the crash-marred 20 lap RoadRunner feature at Speedway 95 Wednesday night, and had to hold off a persistent William McCullough of Kenduskeag to pull off the win. McCullough kept his car right on Beale’s bumper for the entire distance, but was never able to gain the lead, despite opportunities on each restart following a red flag. The red flag flew each time for multiple car wrecks, reducing the 42 car starting field to just 19 running at the finish. McCullough finished second, followed by Bob Seger Jr. of Frankfort in third. Ken Ogden of Seal Cove drove a strong race to finish fourth, with Dixmont driver Rick Gomm finishing fifth. Ogden, Beale and Newburgh’s Dustan Durrell won the three heat races that set the field for the feature event

Zach Audet of Skowhegan passed Hampden’s Danielle Beale on lap 11 of the 20 lap caution free Modified Enduro feature and pulled away from the field to post his fourth win in a row.
