Veteran’s Best Finish Came In Last Start In Summer’s Biggest Race

FALMOUTH, Maine – The last time Scott Mulkern had a car capable of winning the Oxford 250, incidentally, was the last time he started the race.

Mulkern, of Falmouth, will join the best Super Late Model drivers from all reaches of the United States and Canada when he competes in the 40th annual TD Bank Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Sunday, July 21. Mulkern finished fourth in the 2006 edition of the race, the last time it was contested under the current Super Late Model rules.

Scott Mulkern got in his head that he wanted to try something a little diferent, so he’s going ahead and doing it.

Mulkern, of Falmouth, will make his first start in an Outlaw Super Late Model in the 24th annual Glass City 200 at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, September 29. The ARCA-sanctioned high-banked half-mile track will offer a purse of more than $50,000 for the race.

Scott Mulkern of Falmouth, Maine, posted a season-high finish of sixth in the PASS North Series Dunkin Donuts 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, July 21. Mulkern, making only his fourth start in 2012, was part of a two-car effort at Oxford as teammate Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, finished 16th. Sommerville started sixth in the 31-car field, but he brought out a caution just two laps into the event when a loose part inside of his race car inadvertently shut off the engine. Mulkern started deep on the grid in 20th and had moved into the Top-10 by the halfway mark of the race, but his forward progress stalled out after a long green flag run.

McKay Builders Chevrolet. Mulkern finished eighth in his most recent outing at Autodrome Chaudiere in Quebec on June 23, just over a month after an accident ended his day early in the PASS season opener at Beech Ridge in May.
