Barre, VT – The fight for the “King of the Road” title has come down to the final Thursday night event of the season — and it may come down to the final lap as well.
Thunder Road’s 2018 Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model champion will be crowned Thursday, August 23 on Jet Service Envelope/Accura Printing Night. Scott Dragon, Jason Corliss, and Trampas Demers sit just 10 points apart in what has been one of the most compelling championship battles during the track’s 59-year history. Each will be going all-out to take home the title for themselves and for their team.

Trent Goodrow, of Carver, MA. is one of the young drivers this season, racing in the #31MA legend car. “What made me decide to run legends was the challenges that I would face. There are many great drivers in this division and the legend cars are one of the hardest cars to drive. That being said I knew I would learn a lot about car control and be a better driver.”
J&J’S YOLK & Co. is the new sponsor for the Granite State Legends Series. “My favorite thing about running in the YOLK Legends Series is racing at NHMS. The track we run there is completely different then every other track I’ve raced on. The front stretch is completely flat then center of the corner we go up the banking of the big NASCAR track, we run down the banked backstretch into turns 3 and 4 onto a transition back onto the flat. It was definitely one of the hardest tracks to learn.”

Lee, NH – Defending American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Champion Scott Payea put himself in the early catbird’s seat for the 2018 crown by taking the win in the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup at Lee USA Speedway on Saturday, May 12. Colchester, VT’s Payea grabbed the lead from polesitter Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, MA on lap 108 for the 150-lap event. He then held off a final charge for this first win of the season and 14th of his ACT Late Model Tour career.
MacDonald started on the pole and looked to be in control for the first two-thirds of the event, which was run nearly a month after its originally scheduled date due to weather-related delays. After fending off outside polesitter Corey Mason in the early going, he spent most of the race’s middle stages at the head of a 4-car battle that included Payea plus New Hampshire racers Miles Chipman and Rich Dubeau. Despite a series of cautions, which included a 4-car pileup against the turn-3 wall on lap 70, he was able to keep the field at bay.

TAKES FIRST WIN OF SEASON WHILE POINTS CONTENDERS CRASH
THOMPSON, Conn. – In just his first start of the season on the Granite State Pro Stock Series, Derek Ramstrom proved to be the dominant driver in Friday’s 60-lap feature at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.
After winning his heat race, Ramstrom had to start eighth because of an invert, but he didn’t let that stop his run to the checkered flag. The driver of the No. 35 quickly worked his way to the front of the pack and took the lead for the final time on a lap 31 restart. The race went from there to the checkered under green flag conditions and Ramstrom was never challenged.

Barre, Vt. – Barre’s Thunder Road caps off the 2017 racing season with the 55th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1. Drivers from throughout New England and Quebec have already entered the event, but a number of local racers are expected to take on the invaders and defend their home turf in “The Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America”.
Nearly all of the top weekly Thunder Road Late Model weekly racers have entered the prestigious event. Newly crowned “King of the Road” Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, season runner-up Trampas Demers of South Burlington and three-time 2017 feature winner Jason Corliss of Barre are among those who have filed entries. Corliss will be looking to win his first Milk Bowl after finishing second overall in the 2016 event.
