Gavin Guilbault, from Alfred, Maine will be back at Richmond Karting Speedway this season to race the #7 kart in the Sportsman Series.
Gavin has kept himself busy during in the off season, “I’ve been snowboarding, snowmobiling, and training my dog, working on my kart with my Dad to get it ready for this year.”
The 2016 race season gets underway at RKS on May 1st, “I am ready for the 2016 race season. We’ve been working hard to get the kart race ready. We are excited to get back on the track. Just need to scale then sticker it up.”
A lot of young drivers have gotten their start in racing turning laps at RKS, “I think that the oval track at RKS is really awesome because of the banks and the amount of room you have to pass. It’s a challenge that I will take any day. The key to get around the track I can’t tell anybody. It’s my secret.”
There is an Indy car road race schedule this year on the streets of Boston, so what if RKS had a road race, through the city streets of Richmond? “I would love to do a road race because I like to drive fast and would like to try different courses.”
Safety is always important when racing on the track and in the pits, “I would do nothing. The track is run very well and Jen always makes sure that we are as safe as possible.”
With a 3rd place finish last season in the Jr Sportsman, this season Gavin will be competing for the championship in the Sportsman Series. “Yes because me and my Dad have been working and trying different things to make it lighter but still within the weight limit for the gold class.”
Gavin would like to say a word to all his fans about the upcoming race season. “Now you see me, now you don’t!”
