Taylor Lane of Phillips, ME. Is the driver of the #70 mini cup at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS). This weekend the Taylor is gearing up for another round of racing, at RKS. “For the most part yes, there was no damage from Friday nights race, so all we’ve got to do is a few finishing touches.”

With 5 top 3 finished and 2 wins Taylor has no problems getting around at RKS. “Know your car: how it handles in all of the turns, how much it pulls on the straights, and how far you can push it. Also, know your competition, where they are and aren’t good, that helps too.”

RKS has a weekly racing series every Sunday afternoon as well as a Triple X racing series on Friday nights during the season. “It’s easier to see everything during the day and I prefer it in the four cylinders pro stock (at Wiscasset Speedway) but, in the mini cup I like the night races better. The car sticks to the track easier and it’s not as hot inside the cars.”

Racing at night the air and track temperature is much cooler making the cars go much faster. “Occasionally you have to make the car looser as it gets cooler and darker because when it’s not as hot the track is not as slick.”

Knowing the setup of the car always helps when racing and a lot of drivers work on their own cars. “Yes, I love to work on the car when I am able to do something.”

RKS is a great place for young drivers to start their racing career. “It’s such a nice place, everybody there is there to have fun and help everyone as much as they can. The racing is good, clean, side by side racing (most of the time), which makes people want to come back.”
