SPEEDWAY 95 NEWS RELEASE July 5th, 2008
By Bill DaButler
(Hermon, Me) Fourth of July weekend was full of surprises, prizes and side-by-side racing at Maine’s Family Fun Track, Speedway 95.
In the 35-lap Sport-four series race, Steve Moulton of Glenburn earned the pole, and led every lap. There were only two cautions; the second came at lap 29, when Brent Fletcher spun out in turn two. What made this caution so crucial to the race is that it put Steve Moulton side-by-side with Mike Hopkins of Hermon, and Hopkins turned what looked like an easy win for Moulton into a 6 lap side-by-side battle. Moulton earned the win, with Hopkins second, and Jason Trundy of Old Town in third.
There were two cautions in the Pro-Limited Feature, but point’s leader Brenton Parritt of Stueben held the line to take home the win. Returning with a new number, and paint scheme, Dale Swoboda took the #0 to a second place finish, with Joey Doyon of Winterport finishing third.
It’s been hit or miss for Kris Watson of Hermon this season in the Super Streets. Watson has either won every race, or been taken out of contention by vehicle issues. This week Watson was leading the race at lap 12, when he was over taken by Bucksport’s Artie Maguire, then fell off the pace due to a mechanical issue, once again breaking his winning streak. Maguire stayed on top for the win, with Mike Overlock in second, and Winterport’s Travis Beale in third. Watson was able to post a 5th place finish, and still holds a comfortable lead in the standings.
Jordan Pearson of Glenburn, and Wayne Parritt of Steuben battled for the front of the field until lap 14 when Parritt latched onto the top spot, which he held to the checkers in the Strictly Street race. Pearson finished second. Behind the leaders, Pearson’s elder brother Derek battled with Brad Norris of Ellsworth for third. Norris overtook Derek Pearson at lap 11, and held it to the end, to post a third place finish.
There were big surprised in the Truck Division, when Andrew Crosby of Hermon finished second. Crosby held the top spot for every lap, except the one that counts the most, the final lap, when he was over taken by Jordan Pearson. Pearson captured the last lap pass victory, with Crosby second, and Anthony Moore of Brewer third.
