Waterbury, VT –The American Canadian Tour (ACT) today announced 2014 point funds for its two touring series, the ACT US and the Série ACT in Quebec, and Thunder Road International Speedbowl, that will total over one hundred and three thousand dollars ($103,000.00) to the competitors of ACT.
“We believe that the difficult recessionary times are behind us and we are looking forward to both our touring events in the US and Canada, as well as what is shaping up to be one of the most interesting weekly programs at Thunder Road that we have seen since the inception of the ACT crate motor program back in 1999,” said Tom Curley, President of ACT.

Jessie Mueller Wins Second Straight Modified Event at Thunder Road
Barre, VT – Barre’s own Jason Corliss scored his first career Thunder Road Late Model win in the 52nd running of the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. Corliss stole the win with a last lap pass of multi-time Thunder Road Champion Nick Sweet in a photo finish of the first Vermont State Late Model Championship event of the year.
Sweet led every step of the way during the first 99 laps of the caution free 100 lap event. The hometown favorite rode the much favored high lane as he lapped the majority of the field. Sophomore driver Corliss and Cody Blake caught Sweet in the final 10 laps as they worked heavy lap traffic. Corliss got by Blake but couldn’t find the grip to get around Sweet. With the white flag flying, Corliss made a last ditch effort as he threw his Burnett Scrap Metals Ford Fusion to the low lane.

Waterbury, VT –The American Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced the second edition of the International 300 stock car race to be held at the Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY. Sunday, July 20 is the date that has been set for the second edition of the biggest seasonal short track event for the popular ACT Late Models from both the United States and Canada. The event will pay $25,000.00 to the winner of the unique “Milk Bowl” style event. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. (Pole) is the reigning champion.
“It was really amazing to pull off that win a year ago at Airborne. I feel lucky to be the winner of a Thunder Road Milk Bowl and a Governor’s Cup, an Oxford 250, and this new International race at Airborne. The track races great with the ACT Late Model cars, it’s fast, wide, and very racy. No question that first place also pays well,” said a smiling Joey Pole.

Emily Packard
EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. – After finishing in third position the last time at Thunder Road, Emily Packard looks forward to returning there on Sunday May 25th, to see if she can continue to build on that success as she is set to compete in this weekend’s Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. “Finishing third the last time we were here really gave us a boost in confidence,” said Packard, “and it was a positive sign that we are heading in the right direction. I am looking forward to the race this weekend.”
Packard takes her 9x Northstar Fireworks/Packard Fuels sponsored car back to Thunder Road to compete in the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic 100 lap race, which is also the first of four races that are part of the 3rd Annual Vermont State Late Model Championship. “The Vermont State Championship races are some of the toughest races at Thunder Road,” said Packard, “it’s a different track to try and tackle each time you race there.”

Waterbury, VT –The Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic will open the third annual Vermont State Late Model Championship Series this Sunday, May 25th at Thunder Road. The series was started when Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Fair Haven, Vermont introduced the American Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model division weekly to its new asphalt surface in 2012.
“Thunder Road and Devil’s Bowl officials have worked with the ACT office to create this partnership, and the racing has been spectacular at both tracks,” said Tom Curley, President of ACT and promoter at Thunder Road. “Having two very different asphalt tracks competing in Vermont with the high-banked Thunder Road and the very fast, relatively flat, half mile at Devil’s Bowl, has really allowed competitors from both tracks to have a unique racing experience in this State series. The big winners have been the fans as the point battles during the first two years have been outstanding,” concluded Curley.

With Mother Nature winning again postponing the Devil’s Bowl race to Sunday, it was off to Airborne Speedway for Emily Packard and her 9X Northstar Fireworks/Packard Fuels sponsored team for the ACT 100 race.
Spending most of the afternoon practicing and getting the car to run consistent laps, Packard hit the track in the second heat race starting in the 8th and final starting spot in her heat. With only 10 laps to work her way to the front, Packard found herself crossing the finish line on the last lap in 6th position, forcing her to have to run the consolation race. “I found myself behind some slower cars, and with only ten laps to move up, I had to work to get around them longer than I wanted,” said Packard. Staring the consolation race in third, Packard maintained the third position throughout the race to finish in third and get her into the race.
