Credit Alan WardBarre, VT – The annual 150 lap Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup stock car race at Barre’s Thunder Road takes on added consequence this Thursday night (July 11). Not only will it be a showdown for local racing talent against celebrated national stock car star Clint Bowyer, but for Thunder Road regulars there is a lot more at stake.

Bowyer, in last Saturday’s Daytona 400, sped to 2nd in the NASCAR National Championship Standings 49 points behind 5-time national champion Jimmy Johnson. Johnson has dominated the NASCAR Sprint Cup series this season, but for Thunder Road regulars their track point battle is one of the wildest in memory and it has just been turned topsy turvy… again.

Shaw Finishes Seventh at Beech Ridge

DJ1 Scarborough, ME – Even with rainouts postponing a number of the races in the Pro All Stars Series North, DJ Shaw and the #60 Precision JLM team haven’t let that keep them from the track. After two wins in two races in weekly competition, Shaw and the team were riding on positive momentum going into round four of the PASS North tour at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Shaw grabbed his first win of the season in the last PASS race at the Scarborough track, and took the win a week ago in the Nascar Whelen All-American Series “Pro Series 100.”

After a quick rainstorm earlier in the day to keep the theme of the season going, Shaw drove to a fourth place finish in his heat race. This would give Shaw a 12th place starting position for the 150 lap feature event.

Doiron Continues Top Five Streak at Beech Ridge

1000-DSC_8255 Scarborough, ME – After several rain outs, Joey Doiron and the #73 Wild Willy Burger’s team was back in action this past weekend at their home track of Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the fourth event of the Pro All Stars Series North. Doiron and the team have been stellar at the 3/8th mile track recently, finishing in the top five in three of their last four starts at the track. They continued that streak with a strong fourth place effort on Saturday night.

“We finished about where we should’ve tonight,” Doiron explained after the race, “We battled a tight racecar all night and kept getting pinned on the bottom on each restart, we used up our right front just trying to keep our track position, but I’m glad we were able to get another strong run to keep the momentum going.”

Points Tight as NEMA Heads For Lee

leeBrockton, MA – Two-time defending Northeastern Midget Association champion Randy Cabral insists he doesn’t look at the point standings, not this early in the season anyway. He might not be looking but others are and that includes two-time winner John Zych Jr.

Only 13 points separate leader Cabral and Zych as NEMA visits Lee USA Speedway Friday night. Fact is, Todd Bertrand (-26), Russ Stoehr (-38) and Ian Cumens (-45) are locked into a tight battle atop the standings. .

Andy Barrows takes a 51-point bulge into the accompanying NEMA Lites event. Carl Medeiros Jr., who won twice at Lee last year, is determined to cut into that gap. Dan Cugini, Avery Stoehr and P.J. Stergois hold down spots three through five.

Clint Bowyer Prepares for Challengers in Thunder Road Gov. Cup

troadBarre, VT – Race driver Clint Bowyer, whose next event is Thursday night at Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road, was part of a last lap charge this past weekend to win the Daytona 400. He wound up 4th in the 200 mph chase. But that charge has projected him to 2nd place in the NASCAR National Sprint Cup standings behind 5-time National Champion Jimmy Johnson.

This Thursday night’s 150 lap battle for the Vermont Lottery Commission Governor’s Cup on the Barre high banks won’t see the Daytona speeds, but promises to be just as great a challenge for Bowyer, with regional stock car stars eager to prove they can race with one of the nations very best. Barre’s Nick Sweet, Montpelier’s Dave Pembroke, and the three-time T-Road Track Champion Lt. Governor Phil Scott will be joined by Burlington’s Trampas Demers, Chip Grenier, Brooks Clark and 16-year old Emily Packard. Some 30 ACT Championship Late Model cars are expected.

Derrick O’Donnell Rallies Late for Second Thunder Road Win

Thunder RoadBarre, VT – Derrick O’Donnell of North Haverhill, NH wheeled around 16-year-old Joey M Laquerre – three months removed from Driver’s Ed at U-32 High School – and went on to a car-length win in the 50-lap ENPRO Services Late Model main at Thunder Road.

Right behind Joey M Laquerre for 3rd came his grandfather Joey Laquerre, a fixture at Thunder Road for decades. “I tried to give him a little room, I didn’t want to make him nervous,” Grandpa Joey said.

“I have a lot of fun racing with my family,” Joey M Laquerre said in victory lane.
