Lynch Joins Série ACT Castrol as Chief Steward

Waterbury, VT – American Canadian Tour officials have announced the hiring of several new officials across the Série ACT Castrol, Thunder Road, and the American Canadian Tour for the 2013 season.

The overhaul is headlined by the hiring of former Kawartha Speedway (ON) manager Derek Lynch as the Chief Steward of the Série ACT Castrol. Lynch started racing with ACT at just 17 years old in the late 1980s, and had won the Oxford 250 before heading to the NASCAR Busch North Series. His career eventually led him to Charlotte, NC, where he worked in fabrication for Darrell Waltrip racing. In 2000, he married Cait Curley, daughter of long-time Thunder Road promoter Tom Curley, and took over management at Kawartha Speedway. He left Kawartha at the end of last season.

Stout Easter Bunny 150 Field Could Prove Tough For PASS Points Leaders

PASS Racing

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 27) – As the weather warms and families get ready for a relaxing Easter holiday together, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) fans from around the country are preparing to make their annual trek to the base of North Carolina’s famed Blue Ridge Mountains this weekend. Since 2006, they look forward to Easter weekend every year in the hopes of seeing the best Super Late Model racers in the country compete at Hickory Motor Speedway.

This year’s Easter Bunny 150 looks to have all the ingredients of another instant classic. Besides being a PASS South Super Late Model points race, the Easter Bunny 150 will also be a PASS National Championship event and the final PASS National race prior to the TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains (ME) Speedway in July. A good finish in the Easter Bunny will go a long way towards at least locking in a provisional at Oxford Plains for National Championship contenders like Jay and Tate Fogleman, two-time PASS National Champion Ben Rowe, Spencer Davis, Kyle Desousza and DJ Shaw. PASS National Points Leader Joey Doiron is coming off an impressive early season win in the Winter Meltdown 200 at Auburndale (FL) Speedway and will be attempting to qualify for his first Easter Bunny 150 this weekend. This first open practice is the first time many of the competitors will be traveling the high banks of The Big T. Some of the younger competitors will be looking at some of the veterans of the series for advice. Fran Colson, who will be competing in his second season of Granite State competition is a veteran of many New England short tracks, and has a handful of wins at the Northeast CT. oval.

Helliwell will be challenged by ACT star Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who got his start in full-bodied stock cars at Lee USA Speedway. While Helliwell has amassed 8 track championships at Lee USA, he remains in search of his first ACT victory at his home track. Polewarczyk won the opener at Lee in 2008.

Hickory’s Easter Bunny 150 Has Been Good To Veterans and Youngsters Alike

PASS Racing

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 20) – Since the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) announced its expansion into the Southeast back in 2006, the Easter Bunny 150 has grown into one of the biggest Super Late Model races in the country. Regularly attracting 40-50 of the Nation’s top short track drivers, the Easter Bunny trophy is at the top of most racecar drivers Spring wish list. And, this year’s second race of the 2013 PASS National Series on March 30th should not be any different.

One would think a race that attracts Super Late Model racing’s best would favor veteran drivers. That was certainly the case in 2006 when New England legend Mike Rowe won over fellow veterans Chuck Barnes, Clay Rogers, and Scott Mulkern. But, that year’s fifth place finisher had something up his sleeve for the old timers in 2007. Texas tyro Ryan Lawler was impressive in the Inaugural Easter Bunny, but he was dominant the following year, showing that youth and speed could beat old age and treachery at legendary Hickory. Dave Farrington, a Class ACT.

DSC_7029story by Christopher Roy
Dave Farrington has spent the racing off season studying, “I am in my final semester of college at the University of Maine in Orono, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. On the weekends, it’s straight home to work on the race cars.”

The 2013 race season is about to get underway as the race teams get ready for the first green flag of the season. “As of right now, we know we will be going to Lee for the ACT event and then going to Oxford for the PASS event. Depending on the results from those two races may set the rest of schedule for 2013. We have plenty of options with two different cars now to run some weekly events at tracks like Oxford, BRMS, Wiscasset, and maybe a few events at Thompson.”
