BARRE, Vt. – A broken suspension piece relegated Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, to a 15th-place finish in the 50th annual People’s United Milk Bowl at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, October 28. Theriault qualified fourth for the race back on September 27 before the race was rained out, and he finished 11th in a rough-and-tumble opening 50-lap segment on the banked quarter-mile. In the second segment of the race, a broken panhard bar stopped the No. 57 Pelletier Ford Ford Fusion’s march to the front. After working with interim crew chief Mitch Green, Theriault rallied to finish sixth in the final segment in the final Late Model event of the season in the northeast. (more…)
Gray captures first series win; Cabral grabs inaugural series championship
WINCHESTER, NH — Multi-time Monadnock Speedway champion Barry Gray made sure he put a one in the win column as he captured his first career Granite State Pro Stock Series win at Monadnock in the Halloween Vampire 100, which also saw veteran racer Bobby Cabral capture the inaugural Granite State Pro Stock Series championship.
Gray, of Belchertown, MA, captured the lead on lap 29 from polesitter Jake Vanada with a move to the inside of Vanada’s car. Gray then had to hold off Fran Colson late in the 100-lap event when Gray had trouble maneuvering his way around lap traffic (more…)
Barre, VT – Two-time Thunder Road Champion Dave Pembroke persisted through a wild 50th Milk Bowl to kiss the cow on a payday worth over $10,000 for the second time in his career. Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar came up just short through a day of major adversity to finish second, and Maine’s Glen Luce earned third overall. 2012 ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. battled to fourth, and 7-time ACT Champion Jean Paul Cyr rounded out the top five.
The day began with second place starter Brian Hoar blowing an engine in practice, with a new engine arriving from his Georgia, VT shop 45 minutes before the drop of the green. The RPM team changed the motor, and sent Hoar out just as the field fired for the pace laps to make the start. Hoar and Pembroke battled side-by-side for the first ten laps, before Hoar soared to the lead and began to slice through lap traffic. Just as Hoar began lapping the middle of the field, a nasty wreck involving ACT Champion Helliwell and others, developed directly in front of Hoar, but he slipped through the carnage to retain the lead. Hoar cruised to the segment win with Pembroke, 2012 King of the Road Nick Sweet, and multi-time Thunder Road Champion Cris Michaud on his heels. (more…)
