Allen and Gabaree Win Last Lap Showdowns TR-070312
Barre, VT – In a night full of last lap surprises, Barre sensation Nick Sweet sent up championship fireworks of his own on his way to a hard fought win in Tuesday night’s (July 3) Northfield Savings Bank Holiday event at Thunder Road. Defending Thunder Road Champion Dave Pembroke chased Sweet to the line, and Milton’s Scott Payea was forced to settle for third in the closing laps.
Sweet started from the fifteenth position, and manipulated traffic masterfully on his way to the front of the pack. Sweet had reached second place just past the halfway mark, but Payea had extended a sizable lead searching for his first win of 2012. Sweet mercilessly closed the gap before catching him with 10 laps to go and charging to victory in the outside lane. Pembroke inched by Payea on the last lap to steal second, and Chip Grenier scored his first top five of the season with a fourth place finish. Trampas Demers, a feature winner already this season, came home fifth, three-time champion Phil Scott fought from 14th to sixth, and Brett Wheeler, Cody Blake, Jamie Fisher, and Brent Dragon rounded out the top ten.

Lee, NH – The Laticrete Port City 100 for the Valenti Auto Mall Modified Racing Series took center stage at Lee USA Speedway Friday night, and there was plenty more feature event action on tap due to the rain that interrupted the last NASCAR Whelen All-American Series show a week earlier.
The 100-lap race went caution free well past halfway, with Jon McKennedy (1-5), Chris Pasteryak (6-17), and Rowan Pennink (18-82) leading laps before the real action started. McKennedy got back to the lead on lap 83, but he was knocked out of contention when Tommy Barrett tried to grab the lead.

The Benjamin Motorsports team was at Canaan Fairgrounds this past weekend with high hopes of continuing its strong start of the 2012 season. After being 2nd, 3rd and 3rd on the practice speed charts the team thought they would be in good shape.
The team would start 3rd in its qualifying heat and after a side by side battle with Joey Doiron for six laps Travis would bring the 17 car home with another qualifying win. That would start the Benjamin Motorsports team in the 11th starting spot for the feature. The Pro All Stars Series has a rule that states if you win a race you can never start better than 11th for the main event.

Montmagny, QC – Defending Serie ACT Castrol champion Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, QC stole the late victory in the Montmagny 200 at Autodrome Montmagny on Sunday, July 1. Laperle had a mirror full of Quebec City’s Jean-Francois Dery and ACT Serie Castrol point leader Donald Theetge when he crossed the finish line to take his first checkered flag of 2012.
Pole-sitter Patrick Boyer snatched the lead early before losing it on lap four to a dominant Patrick Hamel. Hamel held onto the lead until opening day winner Karl Allard surged to the front from eleventh on lap 23. After a lap 48 caution, Theetge out-dueled Allard on the outside lane and grabbed the point. Theetge looked like the car to beat, dominating the next 79 circuits until a caution on lap 118 that brought nearly all the competitors to pit road.
