Dave Farrington has spent the racing off season studying, “I am in my final semester of college at the University of Maine in Orono, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. On the weekends, it’s straight home to work on the race cars.”
The 2013 race season is about to get underway as the race teams get ready for the first green flag of the season. “As of right now, we know we will be going to Lee for the ACT event and then going to Oxford for the PASS event. Depending on the results from those two races may set the rest of schedule for 2013. We have plenty of options with two different cars now to run some weekly events at tracks like Oxford, BRMS, Wiscasset, and maybe a few events at Thompson.”

SOUTH PARIS, Maine – Norway’s Chris Coolidge will be back in the top division at Oxford Plains Speedway in 2013, even as the division itself has undergone offseason changes.
Formerly fielding ACT-legal Late Models at the .375-mile flat oval, new ownership there has revamped the division to be a Pro Late Model – a sort of hybrid blending the former Late Model division with the Super Late Models that compete in the PASS North Series. Coolidge, who earned his first career win in the 2012 season finale at Oxford, is already eager to get back on the track in his No. 72 Crazy Horse Racing chassis.
“It’s not going to be a full-blown Pro Stock. It’s not going to be a lot different,” Coolidge said. “It’s always been my hope to try and be able to run something like that. It’s definitely going to be a learning curve – I still had a lot to learn in a Late Model, and now we’ve even got more to learn. But I still think it’s going to be a lot of fun.” (more…)

Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine released its 2013 racing schedule. The highlight of the schedule is the TD Bank 250 to be held on July 21. The 2013 edition of the event marks the return of the Super Late Model type cars after a six year absence under the Late Model format. The 2013 schedule boasts a very aggresive format with events from April to October at the 3/8 mile oval. There are 19 Oxford Championship Series points events slated to take place along with 13 Oxford Acceleration Series points nights, 4 Motor Mayhem events, a Mega Monster Truck Extravaganza weekend in August, and the 1st Annual Tom Mayberry Swap Meet to close out the year.
In addition to those events, the Pro All Stars Series Super Late Models will once again return for two dates in 2013; the season opener on April 21 and Championship Weekend on September 27 and 28. Joining the Pro All Stars Series in September will be the annual Oxford Championship Series Little Guys and Oxford Acceleration Series Showdown events for what will prove to be an action packed weekend.

Oxford Plains Speedway Race Report
OXFORD, Maine – Bobby Timmons of Windham, Maine, led the Mulkern Racing effort in the PASS North Series season-ending PASS 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, October 20, finishing eighth in his series debut. Timmons was part of a three-car effort that included full-time driver Lonnie Sommerville, who finished 14th, and team owner Scott Mulkern, who finished 18th in his seventh start of the season. Timmons recovered from an early spin on the backstretch to post the Top-10 finish in the No. 48x Timmons Machine/Southern Maine Motors Chevrolet, while both Sommerville and Mulkern fought ill-handling race cars throughout the day and made several pit stops under caution for adjustments.

OXFORD, ME (October 14) – Veteran motorsports promoter Tom Mayberry has entered into an agreement to purchase Oxford Plains Speedway. The transaction is expected to become final this week. The track is being purchased from previous owner Bill Ryan who has operated the speedway since 1998.
