Speedway 95DONNY SILVA AND JOHN KALEL II WINS HIGHLIGHT SPEEDWAY 95 WEEK-END

Speedway 95 closed out the 2013 racing season with a “Christmas in October” week-end that featured extended length racing on Saturday and Sunday to benefit the Toys for Tots program.

On Saturday, Donny Silva of Hudson led the 50 lap “Quit Your Complaining” Sport-Four feature from the pole to the checkers, besting a field of 28 cars competing for the $1000 winner’s check. The quality of the field was seen when the race went from the drop of the green to lap 41 before the yellow flag slowed the action for a single car spin. On the restart, Calvin Rose Jr. of Turner, who was running second when the yellow flew, was able to edge slightly ahead of Silva on the backstretch, but when the two crossed the scoring line, Silva was again in the lead and held it to the end. Rose finished in second, with Jayson Bosworth of Cornville placing third. Fourth at the finish was Zach Audet of Skowhegan, who claimed the position after a spirited battle with Justin Larson of Peru, who finished fifth. Rounding out the top ten were: 6. Brad Bosworth, Cornville, 7. Tim Collins, Farmingdale, 8. Steve Heath, Milo, 9. Jimmie Childs, and 10. Jeremy Scott, Carmel. Qualifier winners were, Donny Silva, Justin Larson and Jayson Bosworth

By Lisa Maguire

Fall Fury at Wiscasset Speedway was held last Saturday. Fall Fury was the last day of the racing season at Wiscasset Speedway. It was a nice crisp day, and although rain threatened initially, the weather was clear for the day. On the agenda at the Speedway were all eight racing divisions: New England 4-Cylinder Prostock, Mini Trucks, Thunder 4’s, Outlaw Mini, Strictly Street, Super Stock, Late Model Sportsman, and Prostock. Also racing Saturday were all divisions of the Wicked Good Vintage Racers, and the Amsoil Nelcar Legends. The flex race of the week was a one hundred lap Enduro.
First on the track were the New England 4-Cylinder Prostock race cars. This twenty lap feature was caution free and drivers sped to the finish. Starting in the pole position was the No. 54 of Kamren Knowles. Behind him were the No. 38 of Ryan Hayes and Travis Dunbar of the No. 6. When the green flag went down, Hayes pulled ahead on the front stretch and took the lead. The No. 24 of Jeff Prindall shot from the very back of the pack from the outside and took third place from Dunbar.

Second Place For Joey Doiron in Final PASS North Points

1000-DSC_8255Oxford, ME – With one remaining in the Pro All Stars Series North season, Joey Doiron and the 73 Wild Willy’s Burgers/JBJ Machine team was right in the thick of the championship battle.  After relinquishing the top spot in the last race at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Doiron sat just three points behind Cassius Clark going into the final race at Oxford Plains Speedway.  The season began with those tow driver duking it out for the victory, and it was only fitting that they do the same to decide the championship.

Oxford had proven to be one of Doiron’s best tracks during the season, with a few runner up finishes going into this race.  He would start third in his heat qualifying race that would determine the starting lineup for the 48 Super Late Models that showed up to run in the final event.  It didn’t take him long before he was in the lead, and he drove away with the heat win.  This gave Doiron the best possible starting spot for a former winner during the season, 11th spot for the 150 feature event.

DJ Shaw Takes Third PASS North Win of the Season at Oxford; Finishes Third in Points

djshaw_headshotOxford, ME – DJ Shaw and the #60 Precision JLM went into the final race of the Pro All Stars Series North season with one goal, win.  After early struggles throughout the day, they did just that, taking the lead with 24 laps to go and holding off a charge from Scott Mulkern to grab his third win of the PASS North season, the most of any driver in the Series.

The day started out rough as Shaw as he only finished sixth in his heat race, not enough to transfer into the Feature race while 48 other cars battled for the 36 starting spots.  He would start on the pole in the consolation race, and drive away with the win.  This gave Shaw a 22nd place starting position for the 150 lap event.  The team felt like they had hit on something though, as they made several adjustments to the car throughout the morning to get it right.
