Speedway 95SHELBY KIMBALL, JORDAN PEARSON SHARE SPEEDWAY 95 SPOTLIGHT

Jordan Pearson of Glenburn and Shelby Kimball of Cornville finished one-two in the Keystone Automotive Strictly Street Pepsi Beverage Company series race at Speedway 95 Saturday night, giving Pearson his first win of the season and Kimball the three race series win. Pearson took the lead on lap 18 of the 35 lap feature when leader Dave Gray of Dixmont broke his transmission and headed for the pit. Kimball, who was running second, slowed for just a heartbeat behind Gray and Pearson, who was right behind Kimball, drove past her and into the lead. Kimball recovered to finish second, ahead of her brother Matt Kimball, also of Cornville, who finished third. Jim Bragdon of Corinth was fourth in the feature with Keith Ogden of Holden finishing fifth. In the three race Pepsi Beverage Company series, Kimball took the overall win with her brother Matt finishing in second. Alex Berry of Harrington finished third in the series despite finishing the night’s feature in seventh.

Ryan Deane of Winterport rolled to his fifth win of the season in the Dysart’s Late Models after passing early leader Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington on the 6th lap. A solo spin by Carmel’s Ryan Clark brought out the race’s only caution on lap 10, and Deane was able to hold his lead from the restart to the finish. Andy Saunders of Ellsworth came from near the rear of the 15 car field to finish in the second spot, with Orrington’s John Kalel II passing Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs on lap 20 of the 40 lap race to take the third spot. Seekins finished fourth with Ryan Modery of Hermon finishing fifth in a car loaned to him by Hermon’s Mike Hopkins, a part-time racer at the speedway.

JIM CARR JR. TAKES TRUCK FEATURE AND SERIES WIN

Speedway 95Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton drove to victory in the 25 lap Sinclair Towing Service Pick-up Truck series feature Wednesday night at Speedway 95 and in doing so, made it a clean sweep of the three series races. Hermon’s Doug Sinclair followed Carr across the finish line in second, after making a hard charge for the lead in the closing laps, but coming up short. Sinclair also took second in the three race series. Jason Haskell of Levant finished both the feature and the series in third place, Jeff Overlock Jr. of Hermon and Peter Drake of Corinth were fourth and fifth in the Wednesday night feature.

Travis Beale of Hampden led all 20 laps of the Little Enduro feature, holding off second place finisher Rick Gomm of Dixmont and third place Sam Betts of Brewer who both chased Beale for the entire distance in that order, but were unable to advance their positions. KRIS WATSON TAKES “95” SPORTSMAN FEATURE AND SERIES WINS

Speedway 95Hermon’s Kris Watson raced side by side with Milford’s Smokin’ Joe Legere over most of the second half of the 50 lap Darling’s Bangor Ford Series race #3 at Speedway 95 Saturday night, but took the lead in the final 5 laps and went on to take the win. Legere had led the first half of the event while Watson was mired in traffic. But once free, Watson caught Legere and the race was on between the two drivers who were tied in series points when the final race of the series began. The two raced side by side with Watson on the inside and Legere on the outside until Leger’s car became loose in the corners and began to fade. Legere finished in second with 2012 division champion Steve Moulton finishing third in a car that was smoking and not up to its usual speed. Fourth went to Bradley’s Bradley Smart with Lindsey Young of Winterport finishing fifth. With his win, Watson took the overall series win by 2 points over Leger, who finished second in the three race series. Skowhegan’s Kris Matchett was third in the series points despite an early exit from the 50 lap finale.

In the Dysart’s Late Models, Andy Saunders of Ellsworth picked up his third win of the season after chasing down and passing early leader Deane Smart of Bradley from his eighth place starting spot and passing him on a lap 26 restart. Pole sitter Donny Blanchard of Bangor finished second in the 40 lap event that saw only 7 of the 15 starters make it to the checkered flag. Wayne Parritt Jr. of Steuben drove his father’s car to a third place finish with Ryan Deane of Winterport in fourth. Chris Ryan of Carmel was fifth. Five caution flags and one red flag slowed the action over the 40 lap distance, eliminating 5 cars from the race, with three others, including Smart, succumbing to mechanical issues and leaving the race early.

Third in the night’s feature was Greenbush driver Chris Carroll, with Rick Gomm of Dixmont and Donny Silva of Hudson finishing fourth and fifth. MIKE HOPKINS ROLLS TO TWO LATE MODEL WINS AT SPEEDWAY 95

Speedway 95Hermon’s Mike Hopkins took away 2 winners trophies in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 on Saturday night as he captured his 3rd Fletcher/Phippen Memorial win and also won the Maine State Lottery 50 lap series event. In the Fletcher Memorial race, Hopkins won the first 23 lap segment run on Thursday July 18, and came back to place second in the final 59 lap segment, held over from that Thursday night’s rain out. Hopkins led the final segment until lap 53, when Ryan Deane of Winterport ran him down, made the pass and led the final 6 laps for the win. Although Deane took the segment win, Hopkins took second to record the best overall performance in the two segments giving him the overall win. Ryan Deane, Deane Smart of Bradley, and John Kalel II of Orrington tied for the second, third and fourth spots with equal scores for the two segments. Paul White of Corinna came in fifth overall.

In the regularly scheduled Maine State Lottery 50 lap series event, Bradley’s Deane Smart led from the drop of the green until a caution flag flew on lap 24 for a solo spin by Bangor’s Donnie Blanchard. Hopkins, who started fifth in the 16 car field, had worked his way up to second when the caution came out, passed Smart on the restart and led the final 26 laps of the race. Smart fought off a tenacious Andy Saunders of Ellsworth for the second spot with Saunders, who started ninth, finishing third. John Kalel II of Orrington finished fourth and Corinna’s Paul White was fifth. By finishing third in the third series event, Saunders picked up the overall points title for the series, which will net him extra bonus money at the annual awards banquet in November.
