Paul Higgins on Newburgh was declared the winner of the 29 car Wacky Wednesday Little Enduro feature race at Speedway 95 on July 15 when apparent winner Darrin Durrell, also of Newburgh, was disqualified following a post race inspection of his car. Higgins had chased Durrell for the final 10 laps of the race, but was unable to make the pass to take the win on the track. Old Town’s Jason Trundy then finished second after leading the event from a lap 6 restart until Durrell retook the lead on lap 12, following a red flag caused by Adam Russell’s rollover on the backstretch. Mike Ogden of Bucksport drove a hard race and finished third, followed by Mike Witham of Milo in fourth. Andrew Crosby of Hermon was fifth. The Little Enduro drivers also competed in a Double O race at the end of the night, with Mike Witham of Milo taking the win, followed by Steve Moulton of Holden, Robert Mushero of Scarborough, Danny Snyder of Charleston and Ricky Adams of Corinth. Qualifiers for the main feature were won by Darren Durrell of Newburgh and Chris Carrol of Greenbush.

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins returned to Dysart’s Late Model racing at Speedway 95 in fine fashion Saturday night as he won the feature event. Hopkins started off the season with a win in his first ever Dysart’s Late Model event, but wrecked the next week, and has been out of competition until returning two weeks ago. This week he picked up where he left off by beating one of the best in the business to the checkered flag. The race started with Hopkins and Greg Morse of St. Albans in the second row, and the pair took off, passing the front row quickly, with Morse leading the first 12 laps. On the 13th circuit, Morse suddenly checked up going into turn three, and Hopkins was so close to his bumper he couldn’t react fast enough, and wound up hitting Morse and spinning him out. On the restart Morse retained his position, as the incident was obviously not his fault, and held the lead the rest of the way to the checkers. Finishing in second, but not far behind, was the old veteran from Bar Harbor, John Phippin Jr. with Hermon’s Dale Swoboda in third. Shane Clark of Winterport was fourth with Morse hanging on for a fifth place finish. Swoboda was the winner of the 10 lap qualifier earlier in the program.

Old Town’s Jason Trundy returned to victory lane in the Little Enduros at Speedway 95 Wednesday night as he took his first win of the season. Trundy started fourth in the field and passed pole sitter Mike Witham of Milo for the lead on the fourth lap, and never looked back during the 20 lap caution free feature event. With good battles for position happening throughout the field, and lots of action when the leaders passed slower traffic, Paul Higgins of Newburgh emerged as the second place finisher. Higgins and Darren Durrell, also of Newburgh waged a fierce but clean battle for the second spot until Durrell’s exhaust system began dragging the track, upsetting the handling on his Honda Prelude. Durrell held on for a third place finish while Donny Blanchard worked his way from the back of the field to post a fourth place finish for the night. Witham, who won the first qualifier earlier in the evening, wound up fifth at the checkers. The second qualifier was won by Higgins.

Bangor’s Donny Blanchard used a desperation move to pass Newburgh’s Paul Higgins in turn four on the last lap to win the 75 lap MAC Tools/New England Transmission Little Enduro feature on Saturday night at Speedway 95. Blanchard had started the event on the outside pole by winning the second qualifier, and moved into the lead past Newburgh’s Darren Durrell on lap 2. It wasn’t long before Blanchard and the rest of the leaders started lapping slower cars, and Blanchard got caught behind a pack of them, falling as far back as 10th spot before starting his charge back to the front. At the halfway point, Higgins was leading, followed by Derek Cook of Wilton, Darren Durrell, Hermon’s Andrew Crosby, and Blanchard in fifth. Blanchard caught the break he needed on lap 60, when Michael Shaw of Troy slammed into the front stretch tire wall, bringing out the third and final red flag of the event. On the restart, Blanchard started making his move to the front, with 15 laps remaining. When the flagman signaled one to go, Blanchard was on Higgin’s bumper, but had been unable to make the pass the lead. Going into turn three on the last lap, Blanchard dove to the inside and, using Higgin’s car to hold his own on the track, forced Higgins high and made the pass for the lead coming out of turn four. Higgins finished in second, with Darren Durrell in third. Derek Cook finished fourth on the track, but was disqualified in the post race inspection, giving the fourth spot finish to Hermon’s Andrew Crosby. Mike Ogden of Bucksport was fifth. Durrell and Blanchard won the qualifying races, putting them on the front row for the feature.
