Oxford Plains Veteran Set To Tackle New Pro Late Model Division
SOUTH PARIS, Maine – Don Wentworth can’t remember exactly how many years he’s been competing at the short track right in his backyard, but it’s safe to say he’s probably never been more excited about the start of a season than he his now.
“Absolutely,” said Wentworth, of Otisfield, Maine, who will return to Oxford Plains Speedway to compete in the track’s new Pro Late Model division in 2013. “I’m really looking forward to it. I can’t wait to get started.”
During the offseason, Wentworth hired Crazy Horse Racing to help him build a brand new chassis. He sold the Late Model he’d competed with at Oxford in recent years with his heart set on spending this winter on the new car. (more…)
Dirty Dozen Late Model Series: Reid Lanpher Southern Nat’l Motorsports Park Race Report
LUCAMA, N.C. – Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, posted a pair of finishes in the top half of a stout Late Model field in his debut with JR Motorsports at Southern National Motorsports Park. Lanpher, 14, finished 11th and 12th at the Dirty Dozen Twin 100s in the No. 8 JRM Chevrolet. After time-trialing for the first time in his career, Lanpher started the first 100-lap Late Model Stock event 14th in the 26-car field and worked his way into the Top-10 before settling for 11th following a final late-race restart. In the second event of the afternoon, he started 11th and fell back as far as 18th following a communication miscue on a restart but recovered to drive back up to 12th – ahead of the reigning NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion – without the benefit of getting four fresh tires following the first race, per event rules. The Lee USA Speedway will be presenting its Annual Car Show in the Lilac Mall in Rochester, NH. The show will run from Friday, March 15th through Sunday, March 17th and will feature cars from all four of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions competing at Lee USA Speedway on a weekly basis as well as many of the touring series that will visit the speedway over the course of the season. Lee USA’s small block supermodifieds, late model sportsman, hobby stocks, and iron man will be on display as well as representatives of the Valenti Modified Series, the Northeast Mini Stock Tour, the Northeast Midget Association(NEMA), ACT Tour and the Classic Lites. Dirty Dozen Late Model Series: Reid Lanpher Southern Nat’l Motorsports Park Race Preview
THE STORY
MANCHESTER, Maine – Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, will make his debut with JR Motorsports this Saturday, March 2, in the Southern National Motorsports Park Twin 125s – the first event of the 12-race “Dirty Dozen” Late Model series in Lucama, N.C. The 14-year-old Lanpher will drive the No. 8 JRM Chevrolet for the team owned by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the .4-mile banked oval. It will mark Lanpher’s first career Late Model start after making a handful of appearances in a Super Late Model last season. The “Dirty Dozen” consists of 12 races – six each at Southern National and Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia.

Maine Driver Off To Southern National For Dirty Dozen Late Model Series
MANCHESTER, Maine – The winter of waiting is finally over for Reid Lanpher.
The 14-year-old driver from Manchester, Maine, will begin his career at JR Motorsports this weekend, March 1-2, with the first round of the “Dirty Dozen” Late Model series at Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, N.C. Lanpher announced last autumn that he signed to drive with JR Motorsports in 2013, the team owned by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.
After competing full-time last season in Legends cars and making a handful of starts in a Super Late Model, Lanpher sees the coming season as a big opportunity for his career. (more…)
