Mulkern, Sommerville Ready To Join Forces In 2011

FALMOUTH, Maine – They take two different approaches to their racing, but in the end they have a common goal. Mulkern Racing’s drivers just want to win.

“Obviously, in my mind I want to win the championship,” said the latest addition to the Mulkern Racing lineup, Canadian driver Lonnie Sommerville. “But I’m not going to finish sixth when I could have won the race because I’m worrying just about points. If you win races, points will take care of themselves.

“But at the same time, you have to be smart about it – but that’s what makes good race car drivers.”

NASCAR STAR KYLE BUSCH ANNOUNCES RETURN TO TD BANK 250 ON JULY 24

OXFORD, Maine (April 20, 2011) – Kyle Busch made quite an impression in his first two TD Bank 250 attempts.

In 2005, he led the race twice for a total of 61 laps. In 2006, Busch looked poised to win the event when his motor expired while leading the event.

Kyle is coming back and will be looking for a victory in 2011.

RELAY RACE: Cars on Display in South Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Several area stock car drivers and their race cars will join “Betty’s Keepers” in support of the American Cancer Society at the South Portland Friendly’s Restaurant on Monday, April 4, from 5-8 p.m.

Race fans are invited to join the team at Friendly’s for a night of motorsports, food and ice cream. A portion of the night’s proceeds from the restaurant on 210 Maine Mall Road will be donated to the “Relay For Life” event at South Portland High School June 17-18.

OXFORD, Maine – It has been more than three years since Oxford Plains Speedway has been the site of a car/bike show but, that all ends on May 29, 2011 as the “Awesome Auto and BikeFest” makes it’s debut at the historic Oxford oval on Memorial Day weekend.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to once again play host to hundreds of classic car and bike enthusiasts from across northern New England” Speedway owner Bill Ryan said. “We’re working with Spencer Richie Owner and publisher of CruiseMaine and RideMaine magazines to bring a high caliber car and bike show back to the speedway.”

Today’s Maine oval track scene well-represented at Racin’ Preview 2011

Portland, Maine — Maine’s four most successful, most historic oval tracks will join the Maine Vintage Race Car Association, several regional touring series and a handful of other Northern New England racetracks to display several dozen racecars from past and present this Friday and Saturday at the Portland Expo’s 18th annual Racin’ Preview 2011 show.

Better than six decades have passed since the first green flag waved at three of these historic Maine short tracks: Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (Scarborough), Oxford Plains Speedway (Oxford) and Unity Raceway (Unity). The baby of the quartet is Hermon’s Speedway 95, rapidly approaching their 50th season.

‘Save Speed 4 The Track’ debuts at Racin’ Preview 2011

Portland, Maine – A new foundation dedicated to keep young drivers alive on the highway hopes to get off to a fast start at the 18th annual Racin’ Preview 2011, this Friday and Saturday at the Portland Expo, next to Hadlock Field in Portland.

Save Speed 4 The Track (SS4TT) is made up of a group of volunteers who are motivated to keep young drivers alive and help them to explore safer places to fill their need for speed. Their goal is to connect young people with their local race tracks and drivers to learn the difference between a vehicle built for the street and one built for the race track.
