Eddie MacDonald dealt with an ill-handling EXIT Realty/Hancock Electric Chevy for three quarters of the annual American Canadian Tour’s New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 opener at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 23. Driving the Freddie Peterson owned #17, Eddie Mac waited for a much needed caution that did not happen until lap 98.

“The car was hitting the track in the turns and sliding up the track so it was impossible to pass any cars,” said Eddie Mac. “Rollie (crew chief LaChance) and I decided to wait until the first caution to pit and just try to maintain our 14th starting position. We thought with 29 cars in the field there would be an earlier caution especially this being the first race of the season but everyone stayed out of trouble until lap 98.”

The North East Mini Stock Tour kicked off its ninth season on Sunday at New Hampshire’s Lee USA Speedway. 30 cars entered the pit area for the largest car count in NEMST history at Lee USA. Following an early practice session the drivers would line up for time trial qualifying, something that has never been done before on the NEMST.

Qualifying kept the fans and drivers on edge with Brandon Gray turning a 17.08 lap early and holding the top spot while nearly 20 other competitors ran until he was knocked off by his NEMST veteran team mate and birthday boy Matt Sonnhalter. Sonnhalter ran a 17.04 lap barely beating his rookie team mate. Following time trials Sonnhalter drew the inversion chip of 3 rows which would put the Young Guns Racing teammates in 5th and 6th position and putting Mike Soucy and Glen Thomas on the front row leading the field to green.

Lee, NH – Lee USA Speedway kicked off the 2017 racing season on Sunday afternoon with the traditional season-opening American Canadian Tour (ACT) New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150.  A strong field of entries was on hand for the day’s racing action, but none was stronger than Connecticut racer “Thrillin’ Dillon” Moltz, who took down the win in dominating fashion.

2013 Governor‘s Cup winner Jimmy Hebert of Williamstown VT led the early laps of the main, but Quebec driver Jonathan Bouvrette slipped past just after the ten lap mark to take over the point.  At the 50 lap mark, Moltz was past Hebert to move into second, and just six laps later, he made his way past Bouvrette to the lead.
