Babb Repeats at Beech Ridge in Coastal 100

American-Canadian-TourScarborough, ME – Brad Babb became the first ever multi-time American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model winner at Scarborough, ME’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 6, beating out rival Eddie MacDonald in the Coastal 100.

Windham, ME’s Babb, who was returning to ACT action for the first time following an incident with MacDonald at Seekonk Speedway in July, got under the Rowley, MA driver as the two worked through lapped traffic on lap 61 and was never headed the rest of the way. It was Babb’s first ACT Late Model Tour win of the season and second straight at Beech Ridge.

MacDonald started on the pole and led the first 21 laps. Babb got around him following a lap-20 caution for rookie Ryan Olsen’s spin in turn four, only for MacDonald to grab the lead back on the race’s second and final restart on lap 25 after Brandon Atkins went around exiting turn two.

“This MATCHett is on Fire”

unity-logoThis weekend, Unity Raceway prepares for another exciting Sunday of competition. Having four different winners in four Late Model Races, with last week being a first career win in the division. Kris Matchett was victorious, picking up his first win in his second full season of Late Models. Since making the jump, he’s raced the car at Wiscassett and Speedway 95 as well as Unity, and was glad that the win came at his home track that started it all. It was also more honorable that it came on the most competitive weekly LMS race Unity has seen in the last couple years.
Other victors this season are John Kalel, last years champion, Ben Erskine, and Nick Hinkley. Biting at their heals is Ryan Robinson though, with three, third place finishes thus far, can he make it five for five this Sunday.

GSPSS Stop at Riverhead Will Not Be Rescheduled

graphic_GSPSSWALPOLE, N.H.  Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) stop at Riverhead Raceway originally scheduled for Saturday July 30 will not be rescheduled.

The series stopped at the 1/4 mile bullring this past Saturday night July 30 and even though weather forecasts called for no rain throughout the entire week, Mother Nature hit hard with rain falling and forcing the cancellation of the nights action.

Though originally the series was going to return, the track and series officials decided it would be best to not — but also decided that the race will become an annual event for the future.

Luce Looks To Join Elite Company In Defense Of HP Hood Oxford 250 Title

PASSNAPLES, ME (August 3) – Since it’s inception in 1974, the HP Hood Oxford 250 has been an event that can make\ a racecar driver’s career.  Annually, one of the better attended races in asphalt short track racing, the HP Hood Oxford 250 will once again take place on August 26-28 at the legendary Oxford Plains Speedway, paying $25,000 to the winner.  With additional lap leader bonus money also on the line, this year’s HP Hood Oxford 250 winner could potentially take home up to $50,000.

With his win in the inaugural event, Joey Kourafas cemented his name in the record books.  Short track legend and South Carolina racer, Butch Lindley, became the first driver outside of New England to win when he took the checkered flag in 1976.  And the race took on international significance when Ontario’s Don Biederman claimed the win just one year later.  But, the HP Hood Oxford 250, has also seen surprise winners like Scott Robbins, Jeramie Whorff, and Roger Brown.  For many, that was the case when Turner, ME’s Glen Luce dominated to take the win last year.  But, Luce has quietly shown himself to be one of the strongest drivers in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Model division over the last couple of years.  And Luce has definitely noticed a difference since winning one of short track racing’s most challenging events.
