leeThe full moon was shining over the Lee USA Speedway this past Friday night and the Benson Hardware Small Block Supers paid the price. Serious wrecks necessitated three red flags in the first four laps and eliminated a half dozen cars including the leader “Super Dave” Sanborn and the previous feature winner Jon Booth. Defending division champ Tommy Tombarello went on to win the shortened event, becoming the 6th different winner of 2013.

JR Baril outran a hard-charging Grant Aither and the rest of a 16 car field to win his 2nd 35 lap Prime Storage Late Model Sportsman feature. James Piaseczny checked out in the David’s Race Cars & Components feature, leaving Paul Palen and Chris Jacobson in a frantic fight for second.

THE STORY

WESTBROOK, Maine – John Peters of Westbrook, Maine, and the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour hit the track for another double-dip this week, with the VIP Thursday Thunder 25 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Thursday, June 27, followed by a return trip to Speedway 95 in Hermon, Maine, for a 25-lap event on Saturday, June 29. Peters turned in a pair of outstanding runs last weekend – driving all the way from the rear of the field to finish eighth in a caution-free event at Beech Ridge on Thursday, June 20, and then rallying from the 16th starting position to finish third at Wiscasset Speedway. In his last four races in the No. 51 Cash For Clunkers/Derek Kneeland Racing Sedan, Peters has one win, three Top-3s and four Top-10 finishes.

OXFORD, Maine – Chris Coolidge of Norway, Maine, finished fifth in the Oxford Championship Series 40-lap Pro Late Model feature event at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Friday, June 21. Coolidge started on the pole in the 15-car field and led the first nine laps before yielding the top spot as the handling on the No. 72 Bill’s Automotive/Lloyd’s Land Chevrolet started to go away. Coolidge fell as low as seventh in the running order but rallied late to post his second consecutive Top-5 finish in Oxford’s top division.
