Make or Break For Thunder Road Title Dreams in Times Argus Mid-Season Championships

Barre, VT – This Thursday’s Times Argus Mid-Season Championships at Barre’s Thunder Road will be the most important event for any team with 2010 title hopes, as double points are on the line for all four divisions. Some drivers will be looking to keep their momentum going into the second half of the 2010 season while others will be looking to use the double points night to turn around a forgettable first half of the season.

Montpelier’s Dave Pembroke, with two wins already this season, holds an eight point lead over Senator Phil Scott in the Thunder Road Late Model Championship standings. Barre’s Nick Sweet also has two wins this season, although one was an ACT Tour point counting event at Thunder Road, and sits just 26 points out of the lead. Among the top three Scott, who also has a feature win already this season, is the only one with a finish outside of the top ten in the first eight races.

Tuesday night is PASS racing night at Lee USA Speedway

NAPLES ME (7/12) All three Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North touring divisions will be in action Tuesday night July 13th at Red and Judy MacDonald’s’ immaculate Lee (NH) USA Speedway and the competition is guaranteed to be fast paced and action packed.

The PASS Sportsman have been added to this year’s Lee USA stop, and that division will put on a 75 lap show that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The touring Sportsman will have just a few hours to get dialed in for their feature, and although many of the series regulars have made the trip to Lee in the fall for Lee’s popular Octoberfest event, they haven’t experienced the fast three-eighths in the heat of midsummer. Expect the Friday night regulars at the Route 125 oval to give the touring pros fits, although the extra distance will help to even up the score. 2009 series champ Carey Martin and Clyde Hennessey are knotted atop the PASS Sportsman point standings after two events; Mike Landry trails the pair by five.

Rain washes out 24 car field at Unity

For the 4th time in 2 years an NEMST event is having to be rescheduled due to rain. Heavy rains in both attempts for a run at the challenging Unity Raceway were unsuccessful in 2009, and 2010 has not started any better. For the Saturday night event the forecast was at 80% rain and the event was postponed until Sunday afternoon.

The only benefit to the postponement was the number of additional cars that came out to run with the NEMST in its sophomore season. Twenty-four cars were on hand for the event and we had a very close field that was showcased throughout the three practice sessions. After practice was over and the draw for heat starting position was made it started to sprinkle light rain in the area which eventually picked up to a steady rain that had last well over an hour. During the aforementioned drivers meeting Bruce Knowles of Dover, NH took home the Tater’s NASCAR Merchandise $100 bonus. An additional $100 bonus will also be given away at the October make-up.

Hoar Holds off Leighton Wins Airborne Spring Green

Plattsburgh, NY  – Brian Hoar of Williston, VT led all 100 laps of the 36th Furniture World of VT Spring Green 100 at Airborne Speedway Saturday, but his second straight ACT LateModel Tour win was no romp. The defending champion and current point leader was closely pursued by Brent Dragon for the first half of the race and Brad Leighton of Center Harbor, NH over the final 50 laps.

Leighton got the jump on Hoar on a restart with 22 laps remaining and led nearly all the way around the Plattsburgh half mile before Hoar got a nose underneath at the line. The pair swapped the lead again navigating turns one and two before Hoar took the lead back for keeps.
