CHARLOTTE, NC (September 16 2008) – It doesn’t matter who they are or where they are from; race car drivers want to win at Hickory. Nestled in the foothills of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, the Hickory Motor Speedway has played a huge part in the history of stock car racing. It is fitting that on the inside wall of the speedway it reads, “Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars.” Names like Ralph Earnhardt, Junior Johnson, Ned Jarrett, Bobby Isaac, and Harry Gant have all raced and won at the Hickory Motor Speedway. And, very little has changed about the .363 mile oval since it first opened with a red clay surface in 1951. Today’s present configuration still resembles the one that Curtis Turner and the like slung clay on adoring fans. If you look at archival film of classic races at Hickory, nothing is different with the exception of an asphalt surface and the outside wall that encloses the speedway.

ST-EUSTACHE, QC – The Série ACT-Castrol Late Model stock car series will crown its fourth champion on Saturday (Sept. 20), following the 14th Annual St-Eustache 300 at Autodrome St-Eustache near Montréal. Alexandre Gingras of Val-Bélair, QC leads the standings over St-Félicien, QC driver Karl Allard by just 20 points, 590-570, entering the season finale. To date, Gingras has not won a major touring series title in his career, but would become the fourth different Série ACT-Castrol champion in the series’ four-year history if he were to hang onto his lead over Allard.

Naples ME ( September 14 2008) Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North rookie DJ Shaw challenged PASS North newcomer Travis Kittleson for 80 laps before making his move by Kittleson for the lead on lap 120 of Saturday nights’ DJ Equipment 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park. Shaw then held off Johnny Clark and Ben Rowe on a key lap 134 restart to secure his second PASS North win of the season in Julio and Rita Miglioli's Precision JLM Ford. Clark, Rowe, Kittleson and Cassius Clark chased Shaw to the line in a race that was short on cautions and long on the kind of hard core short track racing that only super late models can produce.
