IRONMAN HARVEST 200

leeOnce again inclement weather forced the cancelation of the racing program last Friday night at the Lee USA Speedway.  This time it claimed the most prestigious event of the season; the 13th Annual Ollie Silva Classic for the ISMA Supermodifieds.  Fans and competitors were extremely disappointed but continuous drenching rain made it impossible to run the event.  Currently ISMA and the Lee USA Speedway are exploring possible alternate dates and more information will be forthcoming in the next few days.

This Friday night August 16th will be the American Used Auto Parts Ironman’s week on top of the heap of the program with the Harvest 200. The entry level division will be going 25 laps for more money than any previous Ironman event so far this season.  Travis Hollins, Evan Horvath, Hannah Shaw, and Danielle Simoneau are just some of the division’s top competitors expected to start the event.  More entries are expected for this race and even more are coming as the division prepares for the Ironman Super Series Race October 11th through 13th.  A $4,000 purse is in the offering with a cool $1,000 going to the winner.  ABSOLUTELY THE BIGGEST PURSE FOR AN ENTRY LEVEL DIVISION OFFERED ANYWHERE.  For rules and more information contact the track office at 978-462-4252.

“V” for Vorrilas

DSC_3702story by Chris Roy

Alex Vorrilas of North Reading, MA is racing Legends in the Moat Mountain Road Course Series at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS). This past weekend, Alex raced a double header on the road course at NHMS, getting his fourth podium finish this season.  Before the race, I sat down and spoke with Alex about his racing career: “Throughout my childhood, there had always been racecars in my life, and for some reason I never seemed to express any interest in the sport. I competitively ski raced from the age to three to about eighteen, and loved playing soccer as a kid. Instead of helping my dad work on his 700 horsepower GT Endurance car, I would kick a soccer ball against our barn door while he tweaked and adjusted the engine. It seemed to be a tradition in my family to begin racing, since both my grandfather and my dad both attained their auto racing licenses when they were eighteen years old.

Brett Wheeler Holds Off Scott for Late Model Win

troadBarre, VT – Brett Wheeler of Waterbury Center met Phil Scott’s challenge on a late race restart and sped off to victory in the Harvest Equipment Night Late Model 50-lap main event on a rare Monday night of stock car racing at Thunder Road.

Wheeler started on the pole and left everyone in the dust before a caution for Joey M Laquerre’s spin on lap 39 brought his Spherion No. 1 back to the field. Scott lined up alongside Wheeler in the Lamberton Electric/Maplewood No. 14, but wasn’t able to hang at Wheeler’s door.
