West Haven, VT-It was a perfect night for racing as Friend Construction presented “The Night of Features” on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
The Sunoco Sportsman Modifieds squared off in a pair of thrilling 25-lap feature events that came right down to the final laps. In the first feature, Jeff Washburn launched from the first row to set the early pace. Vince Quenneville, in his new ride in the former Todd Stone 1X, stuck his nose briefly in front on lap six, but Eric Shaw slipped past him on the following circuit. Shaw led until five laps to go, then Scott Towslee overtook him and drove away for the win. Tanner Siemons negotiated a late pass of Shaw to finish second. Shaw crossed the line third, followed by Adam Pierson and Randy Ryan.
In the second main event, Alex Palmer-Sawyer had a dominant car and appeared to be closing in on his first victory of the season. Joey Scarborough, however, had other plans. Palmer-Sawyer grabbed the lead on the second lap and held on until the white flag waved. Meanwhile, defending track champion and current points leader Joey Scarborough was flying towards the front. Scarborough was able to power around Palmer-Sawyer on the final corner to pull off the nail-biting victory. Palmer-Sawyer held on for second. Jordan Fornwalt was third, Billy Lussier fourth, and Brent Warren fifth. Scarborough and Josh LeClaire earned the Elmo’s Pit Stop Hard Charger Awards in the respective races.
In the O’Reilly Auto Parts Twin 20-Lappers, one driver won for the second time this summer, with another parking his car in victory lane for the first time in exactly a year. In the first feature, Trevor Hulburt captured his second win of 2026, firing from the front row and seizing the early advantage. Hulburt never loosened his grip on the lead as he led from green to checkers for his second win of the season. Bobbi Hults, Gary English, points leader Logan Denis, and Aiden Benoure rounded out the top five.
In feature number two, it was the teacher vs, the student as “Santa Bob” Kilburn and his protege Kamden Duffy put on a tooth-and-nail battle for the checkers. Duffy and Boomer Patterson exchanged the lead on the first two laps before Duffy took command. Kilburn schooled the youngster to move to the front on lap nine, but Santa’s Sleigh was under constant pressure from Duffy, who refused to go away. A pair of last restarts gave Duffy hope, but the “North Pole Express” and its jolly ole pilot were determined to get the job done, earning the top podium spot for the first time since “The Night of Features” in 2025. Duffy, Denis, Freddie Little, and Tyler Travis completed the top five. Tyler Travis earned the Next Play Performance Hard Charger award.
The Northern Refrigeration Novice Sportsman Modified division has the fiercest points race at the speedway, with six points separating the top three drivers and just 22 separating the top six. On this night in the first 15-lap feature, Rob Steele rapidly weaved his way through the pack to take the lead on lap six and pulled away for the win. Ben Williams led the opening trip around the track, with Mark McGinnis leading the next four. Steele used a daring three-wide move to claim the lead and drove off for his second victory of the season. McGinnis crossed the line second, James McClellan third, Rob Steves fourth, and Gage Provencher fifth.
In the second feature, Gavin Fleury fought off a trio of green-white-checker opportunities for Rob Steves to nab his second visit to victory lane of the season. Fleury led much of the opening stage, except for a pair of laps where Matt Little inched ahead of him. Fleury took the white flag from starter Bob Bigelow twice before finally seeing the checkers to secure the win. Steves placed second; McGinnis closed his solid night with a third-place finish. Kyle Lanfear was fourth, and Little was fifth.
The Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprints competed in a pair of 10-lap shootouts. In the opener, Andy Quenneville picked up his first career win since taking over the ride in the 9Q from his son Quinn a few weeks ago. Quenneville led every lap of the race for the convincing victory. Tyler Whittemore finished second, followed by Scott Bachand, Alex Reed, and Levi Cram.
Whittemore rounded out his strong evening with a win in the second feature. Quenneville led the first lap before Whittemore took over and was never challenged. Reed, Cram, Quenneville, and Tommy Kasuba registered top-five finishes.
The Stove Depot Crown Vics also ran a pair of 10-lap features. In feature number one, rookie Levi Benoure led flag-to-flag for his first career win. Josh Muir placed second, Eric Friend third, Trevor Jaques fourth, and Scott Richner fifth.
In the second main event, Muir moved up one spot as he earned his first win at Devil’s Bowl. Muir led all but one lap to stave off Gordon Dimick. Dimick completed his best-ever run with a second-place finish. Friend added his second third-place finish of the night. Andrew Lopes was fourth and Richner fifth.
In the Low Handicap Mini Stock 15-lap feature, Quinton Bishop seemed on his way to his first career win, but a last-lap mechanical failure gifted the win to Jerry Jordan Sr. It was the second win of the season for Jordan. Ron Alger, Jayde Pope, Vincent Kendall, and Carl Lapoint also finished in the top five.
Keeping it all in the family, Jon Jordan claimed the win on the High Handicap 15-lap showdown. Kaleb Shepard finished second, Jeremy Brownell Jr. third, Chris Charbonneau fourth, and Jake Fountain fifth.
The night concluded with the Wild and Crazy 40-lap Enduro, with Zeb Provost winning for the first time. Provost was impressive, lapping the entire field to earn his first visit to victory lane. Dan Desforges led the early stages and seemed to be in charge before a mechanical issue ended his chances. Provost was there to pick up the pieces and cruise the rest of the way. Also recording top-five finishes were Andrew Lopes, Maverick Mitchell, Kody Vermilyea, and Raynond Pinney.
Next Saturday will be one of the most anticipated events of the season at Devil’s Bowl as former NASCAR driver, current racing personality and race car driver Kenny Wallace appears at the speedway. Wallace will meet the fans, sign autographs, and race against the weekly competitors. Don’t miss this tremendous opportunity. The DirtCar 358 Modifieds will be making their final appearance of the season at the Bowl. Grandstand admission is $25. Infield admission $30. Kids 12 and under are free. Pit admission is $35 for members and $45 for non-members. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. Racing is at 7 p.m.
