Garrett Hall Wins First Career Boss Hogg 150 at Wiscasset Speedway

Wiscasset Speedway had their time to shine this past weekend, hosting their biggest Pro Stock race of the year: the inaugural “Boss Hogg 150”, lovingly named after Hall of Fame driver and former track owner Dave St. Clair. The $10,000-to-win race was the main highlight of the weekend, but the speedway hosted 2 back-to-back race programs on Saturday and Sunday, elevating the excitement leading up to the big event.
Saturday’s festivities kicked off with the annual “Racin’ Cancer” Walk at the track, a yearly event that benefits the Dean Snell Cancer Foundation. Dozens of supporters came out to walk the track grounds, while others (like longtime driver James Osmond) biked, with the common goal to raise money for the cause. Between the walk, Enduro car raffle and Chinese auction, the event raises tens of thousands of dollars every year, with the overall total raised to date (leading into Saturday) sitting just under $95,000 - this year’s total is still being tallied and will be announced at a later date.
The racing portion of the program included the County Truss 4-Cylinder Pros, Maine Army National Guard Thunder 4 Minis, Carver’s Driving Academy Crown Vics and the visiting New England Dwarf Car Series. May “Driver of the Month” Chassidy Shorty powered through the field in the 30-lap Pepsi spotlight feature for the 4-Cylinder Pros, picking up an impressive sixth feature victory of the season. Tom Harwood won the qualifying heat race in the Dwarf Car Series and carried the momentum into their 25-lap feature, winning the race in dominating fashion. Former champion Shane Webber finally broke through in the Thunder 4 Minis, leading the caution-free race from green to checkered to pick up his first victory of the season. The Crown Vics showed up and showed out on Saturday, with Derek Guptill scoring his first career victory at Wiscasset Speedway while veteran drivers Kevin Sherman and James Goodman rounded out the podium.
The Davis Erector Group 207 Crate Modifieds and Darling’s Brunswick Ford Super Streets joined the Boss Hogg 150 program, with each division going 50 laps. The Super Street race was also $1,000-to-win, an added incentive on one of the biggest race days of the year. Defending champion Ryan Phillips scored the heat win in the 207 Crate Modifieds and powered ahead with a sizable lead in the feature, extending his advantage to half a track in the closing laps of the race. Although he beat out Nick Hinkley for the victory, Hinkley has been deemed the unofficial division champion for 2026 with one race remaining in the season. Bubba Pelton meticulously picked his way through the field in the opening laps of the Super Street feature, pulling to the lead on lap 20. Pelton maintained control through the remainder of the race, fighting off a hard-charging Dan McKeage, Jr. (who drove from 10th-2nd over the course of 50 laps) and defending champion Noah Haggett for the victory with $1,000 to boot. Twenty-eight Pro Stock drivers came out to play on Sunday, trying their hand at the $10,000-to-win Boss Hogg 150. Notable drivers in the field included defending race winner Logan Melcher, 2025 Wiscasset Speedway “Driver of the Year” Nick Hinkley, multi-generation driver Josh St. Clair, 2-time race winner Mike Hopkins, Pro All Stars Series standout Garrett Hall, Hall of Fame driver Kelly Moore, and more. Weekly driver Andy Gilbert topped the speed charts in practice on Saturday, but it was Garrett Hall, Angelo Belsito and Kelly Moore who took the reins on Sunday during practice, with Moore having the quickest lap of the day with a 14.741.
Late Model standout Jonathon Emerson won the first qualifying heat race for the Boss Hogg 150, while Josh St. Clair and Logan Melcher claimed the final two heats. With an off & on rain pattern plaguing the track all day, Team Wiscasset made the decision to forego the top 6 redraw and driver introductions following the qualifiers, hitting the ground running. Josh St. Clair pulled to the early lead over Jonathon Emerson in the feature, but Emerson got the upper hand following an early-race restart as Logan Melcher powered to second. Emerson managed to hold off the defending race winner, pulling ahead on lap 20. A caution on lap 28 brought the two drivers together once more, but this time Melcher got a leg up on the competition. Meanwhile, Kelly Moore was on a mission at the front of the field, making quick work of the leader shortly after the restart to claim the top spot. Garrett Hall cleared Logan Melcher for second on lap 48 and quickly moved onto race leader Kelly Moore, pulling to his inside on lap 52 and promptly overtaking the top spot. A caution on lap 66 brought Garrett Hall and Kelly Moore back together once again and it was a dog fight from there, with Hall beating out Moore by a nose for the $500 “halfway leader bonus” presented by MDG Logging. While the leaders battled it out, Jamie Wright entered the picture just past halfway, eventually using lap traffic to his advantage on lap 105 to take over the runner-up spot. While battling for position, Nick Hinkley and Kelly Moore made contact on lap 124, sending Hinkley for a spin in turn 3. Garrett Hall led the charge on the restart and drove into the sunset from there, picking up his long-awaited first career Boss Hogg 150 victory after numerous attempts. Jamie Wright and Josh St. Clair followed, completing the podium. While climbing out of the car in Victory Lane, a beaming Garrett Hall was showered by water, thanks to a large group of family, friends and team members. He was also joined by Norm Sherman, longtime sponsor of both Wiscasset Speedway and Garrett Hall with Norm’s Used Cars. Paying homage to Norm’s longtime friend and competitor “Boss Hogg” Dave St. Clair, Norm Sherman and Garrett Hall enjoyed a celebratory cigar after the race was deemed official.
This year’s Boss Hogg 150 was riddled with exciting side-by-side battles on every lap and the track is already looking forward to doing it all again in 2027.
