West Haven, VT-The 60th Anniversary season at Devil’s Bowl Speedway came to a close Saturday evening as seven drivers were crowned for finishing at the top of the points standings in their respective divisions on Stove Depot “Championship Night.” Joey Scarborough, Logan Denis, Rob Steves, Levi Cram, Brad Cram, Ron Alger, and Kaleb Shepard will share top billing at the annual “Banquet of Champions,” to be held later this fall.
Scarborough held a 52-point advantage coming into the night and had clinched back-to-back titles once he took the green flag to begin the Suncoco Sportsman Modified 30-lap finale. Marty Hutchins fired from the pole and led the first eight laps. Randy Ryan slipped around Hutchins on lap nine, but Tanner Siemons was on the move. The Orford, New Hampshire campaigner powered to the point by lap 17 and was dominant the rest of the way to capture his second win of 2026. Dave Camara crossed the line second, followed by Josh Sunn, Hutchins, and Ryan. Sunn collected the Elmo’s Pit Stop Hard Charger Award of $100 for gaining 10 spots.
Denis went home with a bag of accolades on this night as he finished off the track championship, won the 25-lap feature, and pocketed the Next Play Performance Hard Charger Award of $50 for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman. Denis entered the evening with a commanding 92-point lead in the title race, having already clinched. That was not enough for the young Whiting, Vermont driver. He wanted to end the season on a high note. Denis thrilled the fans, weaving patiently through the pack from ninth spot on the grid. Anthony Ryan put the “Mystery Files Machine” out front for the first eight circuits. Matt Wade led laps nine through 17 before Ryan got back around him on lap 18. Ryan’s second round on the point was short-lived, as Denis overtook him on lap 21 and drove away for the win. It is the fourth track championship for Denis, who has also won two Mini Sprint titles and a Novice Sportsman Modified crown. Ryan held on for second, Wade third, Fred Little fourth, and Bob Kilburn fifth.
The Northern Refrigeration Novice Sportsman Modified championship battle has been the tightest all summer. Rob Steves came into the final race of the season with an eight-point edge over Mark McGinnis. The outcome of the 20-lap main event was never in question as Matt Little sprang from the pole and cruised to an easy win. Little had to overcome multiple restarts, but he was clearly the class of the field, winning his second in a row and fourth in 2026. Meanwhile, the points battle was shaping up behind Little. Steves did exactly what he had to. Run his race and stay out of trouble. Steves came home behind Little to wrap up the crown. James McClellan, Eric Dingman, and Gage Provencher rounded out the top five.
Levi Cram only needed to take the green flag to clinch the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint championship, and that’s exactly what he did. Cram has been meticulous in his approach to points chasing for the last few weeks, and that didn’t change during the last 15-lap feature of the season. Scott Bachand’s car was on rails as he launched from the pole and took off. The veteran wheelman threw some massive changes at his ride the last couple of weeks and seemed to find the secret formula. Cram felt racey early, but then settled into fourth and drove around to close out the title. John Smith, who has been on fire recently himself, finished a distant second. Alex Reed, Cram, and Chris Lennox rounded out the top five.
Brad Cram came into the night with a 23-point lead over Trevor Jaques in the Stove Depot Crown Vic points race. Jaques finished one spot ahead of Cram in the last feature of the year, but it was not enough to deny Cram the title. Eric Friend, who has struggled a bit more than usual this season, rallied to catch and pass Codey Benoit on the final lap to park his car in victory lane for the third time this season. Benoit blasted from the seventh starting spot to take the lead and appeared to be on his way to an easy win. Friend, however, was biding his time and began to surge over the final segment, making his move on the final circuit of the 15-lap event. Benoit held on for second, followed by Chad Merrill, Jaques, and Cram.
Quinton Bishop has been the hottest driver on the circuit in the Low Handicap Mini Stock division over the last month, and he got it done again this week. Bishop, who hadn’t won a feature previously, made it three of the last four, seizing control at the halfway point and never giving it back. David Labarge led the first four laps, but Bishop was lurking. Bishop drove the 22B around Labarge on lap five and survived a lap eight restart to earn the win. Labarge, Ron Alger, Vincent Kendall, and Chandler Sumner finished in the top five. Alger, who led the division in wins with four, ran away with the points title.
The curtain came down on the 2026 season with the High Handicap Mini Stock 20-lap feature, and it looked strikingly similar to several others this season. Kaleb Shepard visited victory lane for the eighth time this summer. Despite being the leading winner at “The Bowl” in any division, Shepard had not been able to shake free from Chris Charbonneau, who was second in points. Shane Wood and Jeremy Brownell dueled for the first two circuits, but Jeremy Brownell Jr. was on the charge. Brownell Jr. snagged the point on lap three and stayed there until the halfway point. Jon Jordan assumed the lead on lap 13, but Shepard was on the prowl. Shepard navigated his way around Jordan with four laps remaining and held on to collect the victory and the points crown. Jordan crossed underneath the checkers second. Brownell Jr. was third, Bert Oullette fourth, and Shane Wood fifth.
The 2026 “Banquet of Champions” will be held at the Holiday Inn Saratoga in Saratoga Springs, NY, on Saturday night, November 28th at 6 p.m. Additional information will be released in mid October.
