GSPSS’ Speedway “Residency” Commences With Saturday’s Stan Meserve Classic
As the season winds down for the Granite State Pro Stock Series presented by Hudson International Speedway, racing in the Pine Tree State winds up this Saturday, kicking off back-to-back Bangor weekends at Speedway presented by Bar Harbor Bank & Trust.
The rescheduled Stan Meserve Classic opens a two-week residency for the GSPSS at the Hermon, Maine, third-mile oval that concludes with the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust 200 one week and one day later.
Named for the racer, fabricator and long-time mentor of Speedway owner Ricky Craven, Saturday’s 128-lap prelude has grown in stature since its rescheduling, with additional entries for the shakedown bolstering the deepest entry list of the GSPSS season with three races remaining to settle the championship battle.
Massachusetts’ Jeremy Sorel and Granite Stater Joey Polewarczyk top the standings with a healthy advantage over third, making it a two-way race to the crown. Sorel has nursed a season-long lead with consistency, while 2020 champ Polewarczyk is hoping experience and tenacity will make up the gap in the final four weeks of the calendar.
A win would do wonders for either racer’s title dreams, but June winner Austin Teras and fellow former GSPSS Speedway victors Evan Beaulieu and Josh St. Clair, as well as GSPSS all-time win leader and weekly feature winner D.J. Shaw, will be gatekeeping Speedway’s winner’s circle Saturday evening.
Two veteran Maine racers are more recent additions to the entry list, and while neither has made a GSPSS start, both should factor into the battle for the win. Three-time Speedway feature winner Cassius Clark filed a late entry in September for his first race at the track since 2017. And following a track championship earned at the age of 76, Maine racing legend Mike Rowe will try to add a third career win at Speedway and his first since 2015 to his career accomplishments.
GSPSS regulars in the lineup include fifth-place points man Jamie Wright, 2024 GSPSS champ Casey Call in his new Dale Shaw Race Cars ride, New Hampshire native Dan Winter, Bay Stater Alex Quarterley, and rookie contenders Joe Kendall and Matt Beers.
Reigning champion Cole Robie returns to chase his second GSPSS win of the season. Multi-time feature winner Angelo Belsito has thrown his hat into the ring, along with 2016 race winner Dave Farrington, Jr. and 2014 GSPSS titlist “Thrillin’” Dillon Moltz.
Touring veteran JR Robinson leads a trio of racers from the Maine town of Steuben, with Bryson and Brenton Parritt also scheduled to do battle this weekend. Returning after a lengthy absence of his own is Morgan Call, making his first GSPSS attempt since early 2025. Nick Jenkins and Ryan Deane are no strangers to the GSPSS in the series’ Maine appearances. Phil Richardson returns to the GSPSS after making three starts in 2017 with a finish of 21st in all three. Matt Bourgoine returns to Speedway after a strong run in June. Tiger Colby and Ben Nile are two more Maine racers looking to make their GSPSS debuts Saturday.
Carrying the torch for the Canadian Maritimes is Super Late Model Series standout Ryan Messer, who looks to make his first major American Pro Stock start this weekend at Speedway.
With the biggest entry list of the season so far, Saturday’s Stan Meserve Classic sets the stage for two massive weeks at Speedway presented by Bar Harbor Bank & Trust for the GSPSS.
Speedway presented by Bar Harbor Bank & Trust welcomes the Granite State Pro Stock Series presented by Hudson International Speedway for its second visit of 2026 and the ninth race of the GSPSS season. The Stan Meserve Classic headlines the afternoon with 128 green-flag laps of Pro Stock competition, along with the R&R Race Parts Open Street Stocks and Speedway’s own Super Streets, Road Runners, and Crown Vics. Grandstands open at 12:00pm with racing scheduled to start at 2:00pm. General admission is $20, with seniors and veterans only $15 and kids ages 6 to 15 admitted for just $5.
