CALVIN ROSE JR. AND KEVIN HARTLEY SHARE SPORT-FOUR SPOTLIGHT AT 95
Calvin Rose Jr. of Turner made his first appearance of the season at Speedway 95 Saturday night and came away with the win in the 35 lap Coca-Cola Sport-Four series race #3. Rose led the pack from lap 8 after battling with Hudson’s Donny Silva for the first seven laps of the event and went on to victory. Carmel’s Ted Ryder battled with Rose for the lead following a lap 9 caution that eliminated Silva from the race, but Rose proved too strong for the season points leader and Ryder finished the race in second. Meanwhile Kevin Hartley of Hermon survived a spin that brought out the lap 9 caution, and finished seventh in the race, securing his first place finish in the series points. Third in the night’s race went to Milo’s Steve Heath, with Chris Blanchard of Clinton and Matt Moore of Mechanic Falls rounding out the top five in that order. Ryder was credited with a second place finish in the series points, with Andrew Crosby of Hermon third in the series competition.
John Kalel II of Orrington took the lead from Bradley’s Deane Smart on the 29th lap of the 40 lap Dysart’s Late Model feature and went on to post his third win of the season. Smart finished second, with Brenton Parritt of Steuben in third. Early leader Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington finished fourth while season points leader Andy Saunders of Ellsworth, who was sent to the rear of the pack on lap 21 for his involvement in an incident that brought out the race’s final caution, made a charge from the rear of the pack to place fifth.

SHELBY KIMBALL, JORDAN PEARSON SHARE SPEEDWAY 95 SPOTLIGHT
Jordan Pearson of Glenburn and Shelby Kimball of Cornville finished one-two in the Keystone Automotive Strictly Street Pepsi Beverage Company series race at Speedway 95 Saturday night, giving Pearson his first win of the season and Kimball the three race series win. Pearson took the lead on lap 18 of the 35 lap feature when leader Dave Gray of Dixmont broke his transmission and headed for the pit. Kimball, who was running second, slowed for just a heartbeat behind Gray and Pearson, who was right behind Kimball, drove past her and into the lead. Kimball recovered to finish second, ahead of her brother Matt Kimball, also of Cornville, who finished third. Jim Bragdon of Corinth was fourth in the feature with Keith Ogden of Holden finishing fifth. In the three race Pepsi Beverage Company series, Kimball took the overall win with her brother Matt finishing in second. Alex Berry of Harrington finished third in the series despite finishing the night’s feature in seventh.
Ryan Deane of Winterport rolled to his fifth win of the season in the Dysart’s Late Models after passing early leader Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington on the 6th lap. A solo spin by Carmel’s Ryan Clark brought out the race’s only caution on lap 10, and Deane was able to hold his lead from the restart to the finish. Andy Saunders of Ellsworth came from near the rear of the 15 car field to finish in the second spot, with Orrington’s John Kalel II passing Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs on lap 20 of the 40 lap race to take the third spot. Seekins finished fourth with Ryan Modery of Hermon finishing fifth in a car loaned to him by Hermon’s Mike Hopkins, a part-time racer at the speedway.

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins took away 2 winners trophies in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 on Saturday night as he captured his 3rd Fletcher/Phippen Memorial win and also won the Maine State Lottery 50 lap series event. In the Fletcher Memorial race, Hopkins won the first 23 lap segment run on Thursday July 18, and came back to place second in the final 59 lap segment, held over from that Thursday night’s rain out. Hopkins led the final segment until lap 53, when Ryan Deane of Winterport ran him down, made the pass and led the final 6 laps for the win. Although Deane took the segment win, Hopkins took second to record the best overall performance in the two segments giving him the overall win. Ryan Deane, Deane Smart of Bradley, and John Kalel II of Orrington tied for the second, third and fourth spots with equal scores for the two segments. Paul White of Corinna came in fifth overall.
In the regularly scheduled Maine State Lottery 50 lap series event, Bradley’s Deane Smart led from the drop of the green until a caution flag flew on lap 24 for a solo spin by Bangor’s Donnie Blanchard. Hopkins, who started fifth in the 16 car field, had worked his way up to second when the caution came out, passed Smart on the restart and led the final 26 laps of the race. Smart fought off a tenacious Andy Saunders of Ellsworth for the second spot with Saunders, who started ninth, finishing third. John Kalel II of Orrington finished fourth and Corinna’s Paul White was fifth. By finishing third in the third series event, Saunders picked up the overall points title for the series, which will net him extra bonus money at the annual awards banquet in November.

(Hermon) On the eve of the fourth of July (7/3) Speedway held a heavy card of racing for Wacky Wednesday, with plenty to make up for, after a series of rained out events in the last month.
In the Ladies division, Nicole Smith of Clifton started strong at the beginning of the feature, however, lost the lead at the 4th lap when she spun out in the backstretch. After pitting and falling down a lap, she returned the field. Erin Evans of Milo also looked good for the first 13 laps, as she held onto the third spot. Mechanical trouble caused her to return to pit and repair. Amy Houde of West Enfield took the lead at the restart of lap 4 and took it to the checkered flag. Hermon’s Rhonda Wilbur also has a strong performance, finishing the race in the second spot. The top two spots were the only cars to finish the race on the lead lap. Although technically, Smith too the third spot, a post race inspection disqualified her for too low front strut spacers, moving Holly Washburn of Brownville up to the third spot in her first appearance at the track this season.

JOHN KALEL II TAKES SPEEDWAY 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE
For the second week in a row, John Kalel II of Orrington spent the majority of the Dysart’s Late Model feature locked in a side by side battle for the lead. Last week he ended up finishing fifth, but this week he fought off a persistent Ryan Deane of Winterport to post his second win of the season. Deane led the majority of the laps in the caution free 40 lap feature, although never by more than a foot or two, until Kalel, who was running the inside groove, managed to put his car ahead of Deane’s at the stripe and take the win. Deane finished second with last week’s winner Andy Saunders of Ellsworth finishing third. Fourth went to Corinna’s Paul White with Ryan Modery of Hermon in fifth.
