Granite State Pro Stock Series on Display at Northeast Motorsports Expo
AUGUSTA, ME – The Granite State Pro Stock Series will be a part of the 28th annual Northeast Motorsports Expo, at the Augusta Civic Center, in Augusta, ME, on January 8-10.
The Northeast Motorsports Expo is a chance for organizations, sponsors, and race teams to display their hard work for the upcoming season, and gives racers and fans a chance to ask questions and gather information for the year ahead. The Northeast Motorsports Expo holds the annual Helluva Good Pit Crew Competition, Memorabilia Auction, and will also include a spotter’s seminar from Shawn Waddell, of Waddell Communications.

Waterbury, VT – RPM Motorsports has announced that former American-Canadian Tour (ACT) standout Scott Payea will join the team for the 2016 ACT Tour season. Milton, VT’s Payea returns after two years off from racing to compete for the Tour championship behind the wheel of the RPM Racing Engines Ford with car owner and crew chief Rick Paya.
Payea previously competed on the ACT Tour for six seasons beginning in 2005. He was the ACT Rookie of the Year in 2005 and finished runner-up in points for three straight years from 2007-2009, losing the 2008 championship to Patrick Laperle by a single point. Payea also won five Tour events, including two victories in the Merchants Bank 150 at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road as well as wins at White Mountain Motorsports Park, Waterford Speedbowl, and Airborne Park Speedway.

Barre, VT – Thunder Road International Speedbowl honored its 2015 Champions with the annual Banquet of Champions at the Barre Elks Club on Saturday, November 14. Derrick O’Donnell received the top honors for the third consecutive season in the Thunder Road Late Model division, while Brendan Moodie and Jamie Davis earned their first Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stock championships, respectively.
North Haverhill, NH’s O’Donnell became the second driver in Thunder Road history to win three straight “King of the Road” crowns, joining Chuck Beede’s run from 1992-1994. O’Donnell’s championships came in his first three years in the division. He earned a career-high four wins in 2015, giving him a total of seven for his career. Among the victories was his second Memorial Day Classic triumph as well as a win in the Times Argus Mid-Season Championships. O’Donnell also finished second in the Milk Bowl and third in the Vermont Governor’s Cup.

MANCHESTER, NH- The Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) has announced the date to the year-ending 2015 Championship Awards Banquet. This year’s banquet will take place Saturday, January 9, at one of New Hampshire’s premier event destinations, the Executive Court Banquet Facility in Manchester, NH. The top-10 in the final point standings in the series’ fourth full season will be honored, as well as the 2015 champion, Derek Griffith.
Along with the top-10 being recognized at the Championship Awards Banquet, there will be multiple specialty awards handed out, including many prizes from the GSPSS Contingency Awards Program.

Barre, VT – Thunder Road legend Larry Demar died Thursday, November 12 overnight at his home after a battle with cancer. The Hardwick native made his name at Barre’s Thunder Road as well as its sister track Catamount Stadium in the formative years of both speedways, which included becoming the first driver ever to win all three segments of the Vermont Milk Bowl.
Demar rose to stardom in the early years of the famed Flying Tiger division. He earned the “King of the Road” titles in 1966 and 1967, capping the two-year run by winning the Milk Bowl in 1967. He remains one of only three drivers to sweep the three-segment event in its 53-year history. In addition, he won the Labor Day Classic both years and was the 1966 Memorial Day Classic Champion.

On the heels of the first King of the Mini Stocks event at the North South Shootout in Concord, NC a new series in gaining traction in the southeast United States. The South East Mini Stock Tour (SEMST) is a vision of Bob Guptill, promoter and founder of the North East Mini Stock Tour (NEMST) a series that runs on tracks all over New England with exciting finishes and large car counts.
The SEMST will hold its first sanctioned events in 2016 with 5 races to be scheduled. The series will be built with multiple types of cars in mind. Much like its northern counterpart the SEMST will feature front wheel drive and rear wheel drive competitors on track at the same time in this outlaw type series. Focusing on tracks within central North Carolina and Southern Virginia the series will visit 5 different venues in 2016.
