DARREN DURRELL TAKES LITTLE ENDURO 50 LAPPER AT SPEEDWAY 95

Speedway 95Darren Durrell of Newburgh recovered from an early race spin that took him from the lead to the middle of the pack to win the $500 to win 50 lap Little Enduro feature at Speedway 95 Wednesday night. Durrell started on the pole, but an early race incident with Brownville’s Adam Russell sent him sideways causing him to slow enough to let half the field go by. Aided by four red flag incidents that stopped the action, Durrell was able to work his way back to the lead and beat a hard charging Bobby Seger Jr. to the checkers. Seger Jr. finished in second with Milford’s Garett Hayman finishing third after leading for 13 laps in the mid stage of the event and having a right front wheel break, sending him to the pit for repairs. He was able to restart with the field and work his way to third at the end. Fourth went to Carmel’s Jeremy Scott with Bangor’s Kyle Gallant taking fifth. Russell and Durrell both won the qualifiers, starting them on the front row for the feature.

Beech Ridge hosts PASS North Saturday

NAPLES ME (7/4) The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North season approaches the half way mark this Saturday July 7 at Scarborough Maine’s, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and there are a few drivers with goose eggs in their win column that will look to The Ridge to change that statistic.

Topping that list is Lonnie Sommerville, defending race winner of the Southern Maine Motors.com 150. The New Brunswick racer sits fifth in the PASS point standings and finished second in the season opener so its clear he still has the touch for the Cusack family’s oval. Derek Ramstrom has been oh- so close to victory and he was on the podium last time out at the Ridge. DJ Shaw is right behind Ramstrom in the standings and Shaw is a winner in Beech Ridge Pro Series competition; he’s had numerous top fives when the PASS North show comes to town but a win would go a long way to put is 2012 season on track.

Steve Moulton Wins Sportsman 50 Lapper At 95

Speedway 95Steve Moulton of Holden used a late race caution to his advantage as he passed race long leader Shane Tatro of Holden on the restart and led the final 5 laps of the 50 lap Gardner Construction Enterprises Series event for the Maine State Lottery Sportsman Division. Tatro had led from the drop of the green until the caution fell on lap 43. Tatro and Moulton swapped the lead for 2 laps when the caution fell again on lap 45. It was all Moulton from that point on, although he admitted to using a little blocking on the final 2 laps to keep Tatro behind him. Tatro finished second followed by D.J. Moody of Prospect, who was almost a half lap behind the two leaders in third. Fourth went to Kris Matchett of Skowhegan with Gene Wasson of Greenbush in fifth. Only the top three finished the race on the lead lap. Moulton won the event’s qualifying race and started the feature on the pole.

In the evening’s other extended length feature. Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs brought his old Strictly Street car out of mothballs and won the 35 lap Pepsi Bottling Company series event. Seekins took the lead on the 8th circuit and held it through one restart on lap 26 when Alex Berry of Harrington and Shawn Hamel II of Bangor tangled and spun on the front stretch. Seekins was able to hold off points leader Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington on the restart to garner his first win of the season. McLaughlin finished second with Cornville’s Shelby Kimball recovering from an early race spin to finish third. Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton finished fourth after running in the top three most of the race. Fifth went to Duane Dunifer Sr. of Carmel. Kimball won the qualifier for the night, placing her on the pole for the feature.
