MIKE HOPKINS TAKES SPEEDWAY 95 LATE MODEL 50 LAPPER

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins took off from the outside pole position in the 50 lap Sinclair Towing Service feature for the Dysart’s Late Models Saturday night at Speedway 95 and won the event by almost half a track over the rest of the field. The real action took place in the battle for second place where Phil Richardson of Hermon and Brenton Parritt of Steuben battled for second and third over the last half of the race. Parritt finally got by Richardson on lap 42 to take the second spot at the finish. Richardson had to settle for third after winning last week’s main event. The battle for fourth and fifth wasn’t decided until the 44th circuit when Nick Jenkins of Milo finally took fourth from Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs, who finished in fifth. Because of the torrid pace set by Hopkins on his way the win, and the last caution period coming on lap 18, only 8 of the 19 starters finished on the lead lap.

Granite State Pro Stock Series Heads to Maine’s Unity Raceway

Series only visit to the Pine Tree State comes on June 23

The Granite State Pro Stock Series will head to the Pine Tree State on Saturday, June 23 to visit the tricky one-third mile Unity Raceway in Unity, ME for race number two of the season. Over 20 cars are expected for the 112-lap main event and the series only appearance in the state of Maine in 2012.

Drivers from all across New England are expected to travel to Maine’s toughest oval, including 15-year old Derek Griffith of Hudson, NH. Griffith scored a second place finish in his first Pro Stock race in the season opening David’s House 106 at Monadnock Speedway.

Johnny Clark wins John Phippen Memorial Race at Unity Raceway

Unity RacewayJohnny Clark of Farmingdale made his first appearance in a couple of years pay off, earning over $2500 with a victory in the Twin 59s In Memory of Big John Phippen on Sunday at Unity Raceway.

Clark, who won the first 59-lap race, outpointed second-race victor Frank Moulton of Burnham for the overall victory. Liberty’s Josh St. Clair was third overall, with the top five filled out by Palmyra’s Ajay Picard and Dylan Turner of Freedom.

“This victory means a lot, both to me and my father,” the winner said in victory lane, after performing the familiar Big John Phippen victory lap, running laps around the winning car, owned by Dean Fuller of Albion, while waving the checkered flag. “He won a race here in 1981 and in tech they thought there’s no way he could beat John Phippen without cheating.

Johnny Clark, Brian Whitney on front row for Big John Phippen Memorial Race Sunday

Chris King of Burnham won a thrilling Wildcat division main event, while Alex Fernald scored his first feature win in the Late Model Pro Four class in Saturday night competition at Unity Raceway.

Six-time Pro All Stars Series Champion Johnny Clark of Farmingdale and Brian Whitney of Burnham earned front row starting position for Sunday’s Big John Phipen Memroail Race for the Late Model division. Other main event winners were Zach Audet of Skowhegan, Cody Robbins of Robbins of Montville, Ken Lord of Waterville and Robert Dyer of Canaan.

Big John Phippen Memorial Race this weekend at Unity Raceway

Unity, Maine – Twin 59-lap main events for Maine’s Fastest Late Model class, offering $1500 to the winner, highlight Sunday’s Big John Phippen Memorial race at Unity Raceway, presented by Clark’s Car Crushing.

Phippen, of Town Hill, and was a champion at Unity Raceway, Speedway 95 (Hermon) and Wiscasset Raceway during his long and storied stock car racing career. He passed away two years ago, minutes after climbing from his racecar at Speedway 95 in Hermon.
