Speedway 95JOHN KALEL II TAKES SPEEDWAY 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

For the second week in a row, John Kalel II of Orrington spent the majority of the Dysart’s Late Model feature locked in a side by side battle for the lead. Last week he ended up finishing fifth, but this week he fought off a persistent Ryan Deane of Winterport to post his second win of the season. Deane led the majority of the laps in the caution free 40 lap feature, although never by more than a foot or two, until Kalel, who was running the inside groove, managed to put his car ahead of Deane’s at the stripe and take the win. Deane finished second with last week’s winner Andy Saunders of Ellsworth finishing third. Fourth went to Corinna’s Paul White with Ryan Modery of Hermon in fifth.

ANDY SAUNDERS TAKES SPEEDWAY 95 LATE MODEL WIN

Speedway 95For the first 32 laps of the 40 lap Dysart’s Late Model feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night, rookie Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington and John Kalel II of Orrington waged a side by side battle for the lead, with McLaughlin leading the majority of the laps by less than half a car length. Defending champion Andy Saunders of Ellsworth sat behind the battling duo in third spot, just waiting for his chance at the lead. Just as Saunders nosed ahead of Kalel to claim the second spot, the red flag flew when Ryan Dean of Winterport had his car catch fire and head for the infield. On the restart, the veteran Saunders started beside McLaughlin and took the rookie to school. Saunders ran the inside groove and wrestled the lead from McLaughlin on lap 33 and led the final 7 laps for the win. McLaughlin continued his impressive run and took the runner up spot with Deane Smart of Milford surging to a third place finish. Fourth went to Bangor’s Donny Blanchard with Kalel finishing in fifth. Twenty Late Models started the feature with only the one red flag stopping the action after an early caution before the completion of lap one caused a restart with all cars returned to their original starting positions.

MIKE HOPKINS WINS SPEEDWAY 95 DYSART’S LATE MODEL 50 LAPPER

Speedway 95MIKE HOPKINS WINS 95 DYSART’S LATE MODEL 50 LAPPER

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins grabbed the lead on lap 2 of the Maine State Lottery 50 lap series event for the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 Saturday night when pole sitter Andy Saunders was forced to the pit early with a flat right front tire when the first caution of the race fell at the completion of lap one. Saunders, the division’s defending champion, returned to the track before the green fell starting lap 2, and started his charge to the front of the 17 car field. Saunders had a lot of help when the race was stropped a total of 8 times as he worked his way toward the front. When the final caution fell with 4 laps to go, Saunders was in third, challenging Corinna’s Paul White for the second spot. His efforts fell a little short, however, as White managed to stay in second with Saunders in third when the checkers fell. John Kalel II of Orrington raced in the top five all night, finishing in fourth. Fifth went to Winterport’s Ryan Deane, who also had to pit in the early laps after contact with the turn one dirt berm and work his way back through the field. Donny Blanchard of Bangor, Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs, Wayne Parritt of Steuben, Hermon’s Ryan Modery and Lloyd Nickerson of Corinth rounded out the top ten in that order. Hopkins and Saunders each won a qualifier, placing them on the front row for the main event.
