ROOKIE RYAN MODERY GETS FIRST LATE MODEL WIN
Fred Ashmore Jr. of Hancock outdueled Hudson’s Donny Silva following a lap 24 restart to take the lead on lap 25 of the 35 lap Coca-Cola of New England Series race for the Sport-Four Division at Speedway 95 Saturday night. Silva had led from the drop of the green and through a lap 5 restart until the yellow flew again on lap 24 for a solo spin by Glenburn’s D.C. Alexander. On the restart, Ashmore hung with Silva and made the pass on the 25th lap that he held until the checkers flew. Silva also fought off a hard challenge from 14 year old Emma Libby of Glenburn as she tried to take the second spot from him over the final five laps. Silva hung on for second with Libby taking third, her first top three finish in her rookie year in the division. Bradley Dolan of Glenburn finished the extended length feature in fourth with Ted Ryder of Carmel coming in fifth.

Darren Durrell of Newburgh recovered from an early race spin that took him from the lead to the middle of the pack to win the $500 to win 50 lap Little Enduro feature at Speedway 95 Wednesday night. Durrell started on the pole, but an early race incident with Brownville’s Adam Russell sent him sideways causing him to slow enough to let half the field go by. Aided by four red flag incidents that stopped the action, Durrell was able to work his way back to the lead and beat a hard charging Bobby Seger Jr. to the checkers. Seger Jr. finished in second with Milford’s Garett Hayman finishing third after leading for 13 laps in the mid stage of the event and having a right front wheel break, sending him to the pit for repairs. He was able to restart with the field and work his way to third at the end. Fourth went to Carmel’s Jeremy Scott with Bangor’s Kyle Gallant taking fifth. Russell and Durrell both won the qualifiers, starting them on the front row for the feature.

Steve Moulton of Holden used a late race caution to his advantage as he passed race long leader Shane Tatro of Holden on the restart and led the final 5 laps of the 50 lap Gardner Construction Enterprises Series event for the Maine State Lottery Sportsman Division. Tatro had led from the drop of the green until the caution fell on lap 43. Tatro and Moulton swapped the lead for 2 laps when the caution fell again on lap 45. It was all Moulton from that point on, although he admitted to using a little blocking on the final 2 laps to keep Tatro behind him. Tatro finished second followed by D.J. Moody of Prospect, who was almost a half lap behind the two leaders in third. Fourth went to Kris Matchett of Skowhegan with Gene Wasson of Greenbush in fifth. Only the top three finished the race on the lead lap. Moulton won the event’s qualifying race and started the feature on the pole.
In the evening’s other extended length feature. Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs brought his old Strictly Street car out of mothballs and won the 35 lap Pepsi Bottling Company series event. Seekins took the lead on the 8th circuit and held it through one restart on lap 26 when Alex Berry of Harrington and Shawn Hamel II of Bangor tangled and spun on the front stretch. Seekins was able to hold off points leader Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington on the restart to garner his first win of the season. McLaughlin finished second with Cornville’s Shelby Kimball recovering from an early race spin to finish third. Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton finished fourth after running in the top three most of the race. Fifth went to Duane Dunifer Sr. of Carmel. Kimball won the qualifier for the night, placing her on the pole for the feature.

Milford’s Garett Hayman showed up at Speedway 95 Wednesday night with the car to beat, but no one was able to beat it as he won both 25 lap features in the Little Enduro Division. In the first 25 lap event, a caution free series race for the division, Hayman passed pole sitter Andrew Crosby on the 6th lap and cruised to the win . Crosby finished second with Scott Bonney of Bangor finishing third. Fourth went to Carmel’s Jeremy Scott and Charles McKusick of Abbott finished fifth. In the second event, the field was reversed and Hayman started last . By lap 6, he was past Crosby again and had the win in hand until a lap 21 red flag stopped the race. On the restart, Crosby tried a mad dash from his third place position up the inside of Hayman, but Hayman wisely pulled up to give Crosby room, then used the outside groove to power past Crosby to pick up his second win of the night. Crosby was again second with Ladies Division driver Danielle Beale of Hampden finishing third after accepting track owner Del Merritt’s invitation to the ladies to join the field. Dennis Burns of Carmel finished fourth with Chris Hitchcock of Hampden fifth.

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins took off from the outside pole position in the 50 lap Sinclair Towing Service feature for the Dysart’s Late Models Saturday night at Speedway 95 and won the event by almost half a track over the rest of the field. The real action took place in the battle for second place where Phil Richardson of Hermon and Brenton Parritt of Steuben battled for second and third over the last half of the race. Parritt finally got by Richardson on lap 42 to take the second spot at the finish. Richardson had to settle for third after winning last week’s main event. The battle for fourth and fifth wasn’t decided until the 44th circuit when Nick Jenkins of Milo finally took fourth from Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs, who finished in fifth. Because of the torrid pace set by Hopkins on his way the win, and the last caution period coming on lap 18, only 8 of the 19 starters finished on the lead lap.
