The race for the championship begins!
The race for the first Maine Late Model championship began this Sunday at The Center of Speed, Wiscasset Raceway! 24 Late Models from all over the state lined up on the front stretch for the first of three Maine Alliance races. The 100 lap feature started with a wave off from all of the drivers as the paraded past the grandstands. The three heat winners started up front with Darren Ripley in his #70 “big race car” starting in the pole position. Also starting up front on Sunday were heat winners Michael Landry in the #40 and Nick Reno in the #41. Corey Morgan, coming off his top 3 Oxford 250 finish, also started up front in the #26 car. Two generations of Maine racers, Dave “Boss Hogg” and Josh St. Clair driving the #14 and #33 also ended up up front with second place heat finishes.

Two weekends past, the students from the “Life Skills Class” were invited to Wiscasset Raceway, to watch a day of racing. Sunday June 13th, was full of excitement as over half a dozen different racing series hit the track. The day included cars bursting into flames, flipping upside down, and racing for the checkered flag to take the win.
The students got to take a tour through the pits to meet the owner of Wiscasset raceway, Doug White, along with some of the drivers as well. While touring the pits, they got to watch the race teams work on the cars. A bit later the cars hit the track for qualifying heat races.
(Wiscasset, ME) The new Knox Brothers Carquest and Ray Haskell Ford Enduro divisions held the spotlight this past Sunday at The Wiscasset Raceway. The all classes Enduro feature was won by #32 Kevin Morse of Woolwich who passed #14 Justin White of Wiscasset with just a handful of laps to go in the 30 lap feature. There was also the first sighting of the much anticipated racing mini-vans! It was discovered that they can apparently spin out 360 degrees and recover just fine. The real excitement came when #83, Mike St. Germain of Auburn was bumped by one of the mini vans right in front of the grandstands. The #83 Enduro hit the wall, was lifted in the air and landed on it’s roof! Mike St. Germain immediately scrambled out of the car and bowed to the crowd. Then he gestured to the track crew who helped him flip the car back over and continued the race in his smoking #83! Mike certainly embodies the spirit of the Enduro racer. What a great race. OFFICIAL RACING RESULTS MAY 30, 2010
(Wiscasset, ME) Sunday at The Center of Speed, Dave St. Clair told Doug White, owner of the Wiscasset Raceway, that he would need to win at least one race every season to keep bring his car to the track. It looks like we’ll have racing legend Boss Hog around for the rest of 2010 as he takes the checkered flag in the Steel’s Real Rods & Customs Late Model Sportsman feature.
The LMS feature was an exciting race with Buxton’s Danny Smart leading most of the way. Boss Hog in the #14 car kept trying the outside line but was held off by the #6. Lots of door to door racing for the lead on Sunday! There were also great battles in the pack with Rowland “Rockin’” Robinson, Nick Hinkley and Josh St. Clair all fighting for a top spot. Then one of those tough moments in racing, the #6 car was pulling away on the front stretch when the back end got loose and put Danny Smart into a slide. Boss Hog pulled into the lead and kept it to the checkered flag. Danny Smart in the #6 car had a nice recovery and battled back into the top 5.
