The start of the 2014 OSCAAR Super late model season will mark a huge milestone in Jesse Kennedy’s racing career. Jesse and his entire team will be celebrating their 30th year in racing in Southern Ontario and on top of the list is the OSCAAR Championship. Throughout Jesse’s career he has accumulated numerous feature wins, in some of the biggest events in Ontario. I recently sat down with Jesse to reflect back on his career and the sport that he loves so much.

Question #1: Where was your first ever race and describe your first ever race car?

Jesse: My first race was at Delaware Speedway in 1985 with the street Stock class racing against the likes of Ron Ling, Ron Lindsay, Steve Robblee, and Ike Henry. I was 15 1/2 years old and there was concern from a lot of the veterans about my age. Compared to today’s standard I think maybe I started too late because the ages of some starting now.

The car was a 1975 Pontiac Ventura, purchased from Barry Baker, driven by Ron Ling (one race old car) and built by Bert McColl. It was properly set up and built but dad didn’t go top shelf on engine until I put in more seat time.

OSCAAR and the management of Sunset Speedway are proud to announce The Inaugural Bruce Gowland Memorial for the super late model series.

Since the early 1970’s race fans have been able to witness Bruce doing what he loved to do… RACE. Whether it was tearing it up on the local short tracks here in Ontario, or at the fairs doing modified truck and tractor pulls, Bruce could always be counted on to put a show on.

Unfortunately Bruce lost his battle with cancer last year leaving a void in the racing world. Throughout his racing career Bruce left a legacy stretching from here to Florida. Bruce was a fixture at the World Series of Racing at New Symrna Speedway, and they to honoured Bruce this February. New Symrna will also host a memorial race each year to honour Bruce’s memory. This year with Bruce’s family in attendance Kyle Benjamin picked up the win with defending OSCAAR Champion Brandon Watson coming home in third place.

HANGAR 24 CRAFT BREWERY NAMED AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY’S “OFFICIAL CRAFT BEER”

FONTANA, Calif. (March 11, 2014) – Hangar 24 Craft Brewery, founded on a true passion for good beer, the absolute love of flying and the pure enjoyment of being around great friends, will serve as “The Official Craft Beer” of Auto Club Speedway for 2014.

Located in nearby Redlands, Hangar 24 products as well as other craft beers, will be served on race day in the FanZone and throughout the facility during Auto Club 400 Race Weekend, March 21-23. Hangar 24 will also be available in the VONS Infield Store.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to serve our locally produced beer at such a large national event as NASCAR’s Auto Club 400,” said Ben Cook, Hangar 24 founder and Master Brewer. “When we opened in 2008, you would’ve been hard pressed to find flavorful beer at a national venue like the Auto Club Speedway. Craft beer has come a long way and we are proud to represent an industry of small brewers at such a grand event.”

“Hangar 24’s passion for their product and our fans passion for NASCAR are at the same peak level,” said Speedway President Gillian Zucker. “We’re proud to introduce and highlight a local business like Hangar 24 Craft Brewery. Our goal is to drive race fans to be passionate about the Hangar 24 brand and through this relationship to continue to grow two great Southern California brands.”

Hangar 24 Craft Brewery was founded in 2008 across from the Redlands, California airport. Widely known for their flagship beer, Orange Wheat, the brewery takes its name from the hangar in which Founder and Master Brewer Ben Cook and his fellow pilots would meet up with family and friends for a day of flying. Afterwards they would share stories, barbecue, play music and enjoy Ben’s latest batch of homebrews. Hangar 24 Craft Brewery embodies that spirit: good beer, a love of flying and the pure enjoyment of being among good friends.
