Easter Miracle For Ben Rowe at Hickory

Easter Miracle For Ben Rowe at Hickory

HICKORY, N.C. — In his own words, it was a miraculous performance from Ben Rowe at Hickory Motor Speedway over the weekend.

“It was a long, long night,” Rowe said after finishing eighth in the PASS Easter Bunny 150 on Saturday. “To come home where we did, it was a miracle. It really was.”

Rowe battled lost brakes, a flat tire and damaged to the race car all night to charge from 28th starting position in the 32-car field and end up in the top-10 by the time the checkered flag fell in his No. 48 Community Pharmacies Chevrolet.

Rowe, the 2009 Easter Bunny 150 winner, knew that his team would be in for a battle even before qualifying began for the second event in the five-race 2010 PASS National Series.

Top-Five Finish For Mohegan Sun Racing At South Boston

South Boston, VA (April 5, 2010): Matt Kobyluck put himself and the Mohegan Sun race team back on the radar with a fifth place finish Saturday afternoon in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East South Boston 150. Kobyluck, who finished 15th the previous week at Greenville, was content with the strong finish and now sits eighth in the points two races into a ten-race schedule.

Kobyluck started the race from the fourth spot after posting a qualifying speed of 89.341 mph (16.118 seconds) in time trials. The Waterford, Conn. driver remained in fourth through the first 30 laps of the race, but used a restart to get by Ryan Truex on lap 32 for third. The Mohegan Sun Casino Chevrolet dropped back to sixth by lap 52, but regained a spot on lap 95 to take over fifth.

“We had a fifth place car today,” said Kobyluck, who won the K&N Pro Series East debut at South Boston in 2007. “But I’ll take it. Things can get pretty rough here on a track like this with beating and banging, but we came out of today with a car in one piece and a finish a lot better than last week. We’re headed in the right direction.”

YEAR OF THE DRAGON: Brent Dragon Sets Sights on 1st ACT Championship

YEAR OF THE DRAGON: Brent Dragon Sets Sights on 1st ACT Championship

MILTON, Vt. — The goal is simple for a driver who carries a surname synonymous with stock car racing in the region. Brent Dragon wants to win the ACT Late Model Tour championship in 2010.

“It’s been that way for the last 25 years it seems,” Dragon said recently.

This year, though, there is even more optimism coming from the Dragon race shop than in offseasons past. For starters, Dragon finished the 2009 season as one of the hottest Late Model drivers in New England, winning three times after June 1 and finishing fifth in the final ACT standings.

Dragon, who has been on the tour since its inception 18 years ago, has three times been the ACT bridesmaid. He’s started more ACT races than any driver in history and owns nine career victories on tour. The son of Beaver Dragon and nephew of Bobby Dragon, Brent believes that last year’s strong finish could lead to this year finally being his year.
