For the first time in two years, Go-Karts returned to Oxford Plains Speedway, as an open practice was held for the JAR Racing Photography Karting Series. The Series will kick off with seven divisions of karting this coming Thursday night at 6pm.
“It was great to see the kids behind the wheel of their karts as every time they took to the track, they improved dramatically, stated General Manager, Dick Therrien. Several of the youngsters were six years old and a little nervous, but before the day was done, they felt much more comfortable. No major incidents occurred, and overall, I was quite happy with the day. I’m looking forward to Thursday night.”

So what is it like for a driver to get their first win at Richmond Karting Speedway, well Alex Moore of Oxford, Maine can tell you all about it, “Out of this world, people could not think or say how fun it is.”
Alex won the heat race earlier in the day and sat on the Pole for the feature race. Midway through the race the 47 kart got past Alex, then on the last lap Alex was able to make the pass coming out of 4 to get his first career win at RKS . “Ok well I was sitting second and I felt I was about 2 car lengths behind the leader when coming into turns 3 & 4. We came out of 4 with the white flag waving and I thought I was going to end up second. A lap car was ahead of us so when the 47 went high to pass, there was an opening on the inside. I knew I had to make a quick decision to either follow him or go to the inside. I picked the inside hoping would come out in front, he came down and hit me. I saw one of the flag men in the infield wave the yellow flag but the green light was still on. Coming out of 4 one last then I started to cry and scream Oh My God, I Won.”

In the first race of the season the #7 car ran into some mechanical issues, but was able to correct the problem and finish the race last weekend in 3rd place. “Yes, we did fix it. I’m glad we did because it had slowed the kart down.”
This Friday night is the first race under the lights this season, “Yes! I can’t wait! Not only do I get to see my favorite people but I get another chance for the checkered!”
There are some really good drivers in racing against Kayla in the Unrestricted Sr. Sportsman Series, so what will it take to get the #7 kart into victory lane. “I think the most important thing to get the kart to victory lane this season is focus and effort! Every move, and every pass to perfection.”

The 2014 race season at Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS) this past weekend and Jakob Nichols of Jay, Maine had a roller coaster of a ride with a wild multi-kart wreck in the 1st feature race and a trip to victory lane for his 1st career Unrestricted Series win at RKS. “I’ve won lots of times at RKS but Sunday was my first unrestricted win. I was pretty excited, especially after wrecking in the first feature. It felt good to come back from that with a win.”
Though after winning the race it was business as usual, “No celebration but my family was all pretty happy for me.”
In the first feature race Jakob was caught up in a multi-car wreck as his kart went airborne flipping end over end. “It happened so fast, I didn’t know what to think. The karts are pretty safe, especially with all the right stuff. The first thing I said to my dad was, — “I wonder what MeMe thought of that?””
