Vintage Racing Returns to New Hampshire Motor Speedway May 10-13

LOUDON, N.H. (May 7, 2012) – Vintage represents the high quality of a past time, is old-fashioned and means being the best of its kind. All is true as New Hampshire Motor Speedway steps back in time when history comes alive for the 22nd Annual Vintage Racing Celebration May 10-13.

Race fans of all ages can enjoy four days of memorable racing with machines that are rare, special and something worth taking the time to stop and appreciate.

Third Time’s a Charm

After two consecutive runner-up finishes on American Canadian Tour Wayne Helliwell Jr. was not the bridesmaid in round three of the 2012 season. Dominating the second half of the FOX 101.5 Spring Green 112 to pick up his first ever series victory at Devils Bowl Speedway in West Haven Vermont.

The Bruce Bernhardt owned team rolled into the half mile Vermont Speedbowl hoping for a better result than their 2011 mud exploration off the backstretch; which involved ankle deep mud and a tractor to remove the car. They would not be disappointed. Using the +/- passing system Helliwell would finish fourth in his heat netting +4 to start the 112 lap event from the third starting position. “We had a really balanced car right off the trailer, said Wayne. We made minimal changes throughout the day.”

GRIMM RACING PREPARES FOR K&N SERIES OPENER AT BRISTOL

Eddie MacDonald and the Grimm Racing Team are busy readying for the 14 race K&N Series East schedule with the first race on the famed half-mile of Bristol Motor Speedway on St Patrick’s Day, March 17. This is the first race for the East Series at Bristol and the excitement can be felt throughout the shop.

“This is our Super Bowl of short track racing, just like Daytona is for the top divisions.” said Eddie MacDonald. “We have been looking forward to this date since it was announced on the schedule. Everyone in our organization is excited about racing at Bristol. Personally, I can’t wait to get out on that track on test day in preparation for the race. NASCAR has the East Series scheduled for the test day on Monday, February 27 and we are looking forward to learning as much as we can.”

17th Place Finish to Start the 2012 Season

The Benjamin Motorsports team started the 2012 season at Beech Ridge this past Saturday. After practice was cancelled on Friday, that kinda put the team a little behind the eight ball but after practice on Saturday morning the team was confident that they could have a good race.

Starting in the fifth position in the qualifying race and finishing second in just fifteen laps the team knew they were good to run in the top ten but didn’t feel they had a car capable of winning so a few adjustments were made after the qualifying race. (more…)

Helliwell Claims First ACT Win, Unofficially Takes Over Point Lead

West Haven, VT – Wayne Helliwell Jr. of Dover, NH dominated the second half of The Fox 101.5 Spring Green 112 on the way to his first ever American Canadian Tour victory on Sunday May 6, 2012 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Helliwell took over the lead on lap 58 and had to fend off a late race attack from Hudson, NH’s Joey Polwarczyk Jr. to take the checkers. Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, ME stormed from the 20th starting position to take over third, Ray Parent and Randy Potter completed the top five.

The race began with weekly competitor Craig Bushey leading the first lap after a +5 in the ACT plus minus system earned him the second starting position. Multi-time Oxford Plains Speedway Champion Ricky Rolfe took over for the next 26 laps before the lead was briefly wrestled away by former Thunder Road Champion Nick Sweet. Sweet only held on to the lead for two laps before Groveton’s Randy Potter took over the point.

PASS North Beech Ridge race report

PASS North: Joey Doiron breaks through at Beech Ridge
Scarborough ME (5/5) Berwick Maine’s Joey Doiron charged to the lead on lap 87 of Saturday’s PASS North Southern Maine Motors.com 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway to earn a convincing victory, the first for the series’ 2010 Rookie of the Year. Lonnie Sommerville raced home in second followed by Derek Ramstrom, Cassius Clark and DJ Shaw. Doiron came from tenth on the grid and drove under Sommerville and race leader Shaw for a lead he would never relinquish.
