A hearty crowd of racing-starved fans huddled into a blustery Wiscasset Speedway Saturday afternoon for the start of the 2013 Maine racing season. This is a new chapter in the history of the state’s fastest track. The coastal speed plant has been relatively silent for nearly three years. Saturday it roared to life as new track owners Richard and Vanessa Jordan of Kingfield unveiled the results of their off-season work, and kick started the revival of racing action.
East Madison’s Jeff Burgess didn’t have a very large group of cars chasing him in the 30 lap Prostock feature. It probably did not matter to the veteran racer. This was one win that he wasn’t about to let slip through his hands. On this day his late father, Butch Burgess, who built his legendary resume with wins from Wiscasset, was to be inducted into the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame. Jeff honored him in perhaps the best way he could- by winning at the same track his father had won at so many times before. Burgess used the first half of the race to gradually pull away from Bill Penfold of Yarmouth, and cruised from there to the win. It wasn’t his first Wiscasset win, his most difficult win, or the biggest win of his long career. However, there was no doubt it was one of the most important. The Pro All Stars Series tour kicks off their 2013 season at Oxford Plains Speedway on April 21st. Defending champion Travis Benjamin, is looking forward to the green flag. “Being a PASS champion is a great accomplishment!! There has only been 3 other drivers that can say that. I’ve worked my whole life to win the championship in some kind of sport and now I can say that I’m a champion!!”
Though the off season hasn’t been all fun and games… actually it has been as Travis has hit the hoops in his spare time. “This off season I’ve just been working a lot at Belfast Variety and during the off season I play a lot of basketball. There’s been two leagues in Belfast, one league in Ellsworth and another in Waterville. So that keeps me in shape.”

Ben Lynch is all set for the 2013 American Canadian Tour (ACT) race season opener at Lee Speedway. “The car has been done for a while. We had a great end to last year so there wasn’t much to do this off season. We just worked on the little things we had problems with last year. I’m excited for Lee. I think we should have a great car, and its hopefully going to kick start another great year. It’s one of the closest tracks to us so we end up with a lot of fans there, so I really wanna do well for all of them.”
Though Ben has kept busy in the over the winter monthes, “This off season has been just school and work. I’m still at UNC Charlotte studying Mechanical Engineering. That takes up most of my time. But when I’m not doing school work, I work at the Richard Petty Driving Experience. I give fans rides around race tracks like Charlotte Motor Speedway. It’s a great job and it keeps me behind the wheel of the of race cars all off season.”

Bradley Babb Back Behind Wheel In 2013
3rd-Generation Beech Ridge Champion Sets Sights On Title Defense, PASS North Series
WINDHAM, Maine – Bradley Babb isn’t one for hyperbole. Ask him about what it means to be a third-generation champion at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, joining his father and grandfather as a champion in the track’s premier division, and he’s already looking ahead.
“I don’t really know what to say to it,” said Babb, 20, of Windham, Maine. “I mean, I still just want to go out and win races like they’ve always done.”

The kart racing season is about to get underway and Colby Benjamin can’t wait to see the green flag fly. Though Colby has been busy in the off season, “In the off season I have been ice fishing, playing basketball, target practicing and cub scouts.”
Richmond Karting Speedway (RKS), kicks off their race season May 5th, and the Colby is ready to race. “Oh Yeah! Can’t wait to get on the track again. Hoping to get a few more wins this season and try some new tracks.”

WISCASSET SPEEDWAY SET TO RE-OPEN FOR 2013 SEASON

The racing season is upon us again, and Wiscasset Speedway will be celebrating its 44th year with an action packed itinerary. New owners, Richard and Vanessa Jordan, invite race fans everywhere to bring their families and come join in the fun. The 3/8 mile high banked track is set to open on April 6 at 1:00 PM, and hold divisional races on Saturdays’ through Fall Fury on October 5, 2013. Wiscasset Speedway first opened in 1969, and to this day remains the fastest in the state.
This year, in an effort to provide a timely and action packed show, the new management team has decided to split their regular divisions into two groups that will alternate week to week. Group one will feature Prostock, Superstock, Thunder 4’s, and Northeast 4 cylinder Prostocks divisions. Group two will showcase Late Model Sportsman, Strickly Streets, Outlaw Mini’s, and Mini Trucks. Also on the schedule are exciting enduro races, Nelcar Legends, Northeast Mini Stock Tour, The Wicked Vintage Racers, and more. Wiscasset will run a Saturday afternoon program throughout the month of April and then bring the action under the lights beginning in May. (more…)
