RACING JULY 4 at Unity Raceway

The fireworks at the New Spirit of Unity Raceway wasn't the only thing lighting up the sky. The Men's Peanut division 30 lap feature was just one of the night's outstanding events. Newcomer Zach Audet and Ryan Ripley drove off to an early lead. This two would go door to door until Ripley would take the lead. Derek Cook and Tim Robinson are gaining on the leaders from the back of the pack. These two would catch Ripley and use the outside groove to pass for the lead. Cook would maintain a slight lead over Robinson. Robinson would try everything he could to get around Cook. Cook's machine developed a smoking problem from the right front tire shortly after the half way mark. This problem would remain throughout the rest of the race. The smoking didn't slow the 88 down. Cook would cross the line first, only to have the win taken away in post race inspection. The win would go to the 62 of Tim Robinson. Ryan Ripley would take home the second place trophy. In his first Unity Raceway appearance, Zach Audet would take third. Kyle Gallant and Chris Williams would finish out the top five.

JEREMEY WHORFF PICKS UP FIRST WISCASSET PROSTOCK VICTORY

The biggest crowd of the season packed into Maine's Center of Speed Saturday evening for a night of racing sponsored by Accord Auto of Richmond and a spectacular fireworks show to celebrate the Independence Day weekend. The track's top division rebounded from series of caution and wrecked filled races to put on perhaps the most exciting race of the year, thanks mostly to a pair of 3rd generation stars. Whorff started from the pole position for the 50 lap feature with Wiscasset's Chuck Colby to his outside.

SPEEDWAY 95 NEWS RELEASE July 5th, 2008

By Bill DaButler

(Hermon, Me) Fourth of July weekend was full of surprises, prizes and side-by-side racing at Maine’s Family Fun Track, Speedway 95.

In the 35-lap Sport-four series race, Steve Moulton of Glenburn earned the pole, and led every lap. There were only two cautions; the second came at lap 29, when Brent Fletcher spun out in turn two. What made this caution so crucial to the race is that it put Steve Moulton side-by-side with Mike Hopkins of Hermon, and Hopkins turned what looked like an easy win for Moulton into a 6 lap side-by-side battle. Moulton earned the win, with Hopkins second, and Jason Trundy of Old Town in third.
