WAYNE PARRITT WINS 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

Speedway 95Wayne Parritt of Steuben and Andy Saunders of Ellsworth waged a side by side battle for the lead following a lap 11 restart until Parritt finally pulled ahead in the final 5 laps to win the Dysart’s Late Model feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night. Saunders finished second with Donny Blanchard of Bangor taking third after a final lap melee in turn three jumbled the finishing order. Deane Smart of Bradley and Burnham’s Frank Moulton were racing for the third position when the cars touched, sending Smart off the track in turn three and Moulton spinning as he rounded turn four, allowing Blanchard to take the third spot. Head starter Jordan Harnish sent Moulton to the rear of the field at the finish for his part in starting the fracas. John Kalel II of Orrington was awarded fourth with Ryan Modery of Hermon, who had caused the lap 11 caution with his solo spin in thru four finished fifth. The remainder of the finishing order was 6. Duane Seekins, Stockton Springs ,7. Joey Doyon, Winterport, 8. Alex Waltz, Damariscotta, 9. Deane Smart, Bradley, 10. Frank Moulton, Burnham 11. Phil Richardson, Hermon and 12. Patrick Thibodeau, Winterport.

TRAVIS BEALE TAKES LITTLE ENDURO FEATURE AT Speedway 95 LADIES FEATURE CANCELLED AFTER LAP 2 WRECK

Travis Beale of Hampden brought his car back to Speedway 95 in response to track owner Del Merritt’s posting of larger than normal purse to draw more cars to the track and promptly snapped Garett Hayman’s five race winning streak. Beale, who had been racing at Spud Speedway in Caribou, showed his experience as he worked his way past Hayman in traffic early in the event and broke into the lead on lap 8 of the 20 lap feature. Darren Durrell of Newburgh, the 2011 division champion, also answered Merritt’s call for more cars on Wednesday night and placed second. Hayman finished third after catching but not being able to pass Durrell. Daymon Dodge of Winterport placed fourth with early leader Kyle Gallant of Veazie falling to fifth in the closing laps.

MIKE HOPKINS WIRES 100 LAP 95 LATE MODEL RACE AT SPEEDWAY 95

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins started on the pole for the 100 lap John Phippen/Allen Fletcher Memorial race for Late Models at Speedway 95 Thursday night and led every lap until the checkered flag fell. Hopkins margin of victory over second place John Kalel II of Orrington was 1.28 seconds after a lap 87 caution bunched the field for the finish. Frank Moulton of Burnham finished a strong third with Brian Whitney of Burnham and Joey Doyon of Winterport rounding out the top five. Two cautions and one red flag slowed the action throughout the 100 lap distance, with 8 out of the 13 cars starting the race making it to the end. In addition to the lap 87 caution, Joey Doyon and Wayne Parritt of Steuben brought out the first yellow on lap 16 when they spun each other on the front stretch. Both were able to continue after a quick trip to the pit for repairs. On lap 39, Dale Swoboda of Hermon ended up in the back stretch wall, bringing out the red flag while crews loaded his wrecked racer onto a flatbed. Swoboda was uninjured.

GARETT HAYMAN WINS LITTLE ENDURO SERIES EVENT AT 95

Garett Hayman of Milford made it three wins out of the last four races he’s entered at Speedway 95 as he won the 25 lap Little Enduro feature at Speedway 95 Wednesday night. Hayman started 6th in the field and took the lead on lap three after a short but close battle with Hermon’s Andrew Crosby. Crosby chased Hayman for the next 20 laps until 14 year old Emma Libby of Glenburn, who won the Ladies division feature earlier in the evening, came from the rear of the field to pass Crosby for the second spot. Hayman had built up enough of a lead to stay in the top spot when the checkers fell, but Libby was on a charge to the front and was closing when the caution free race ended. Libby finished second with Crosby finishing third. Fourth spot went to Kyle Gallant of Veazie with Scott Bonney of Bangor in fifth. Hayman led Crosby by two points in the season totals going in to the night’s racing.

Emma Libby of Glenburn took the lead on the fourth lap of the caution free Ladies Division feature and led to the checkers. Rhonda Wilbur of Hermon got by Nicole Smith of Clifton with two laps to go to finish second, with Smith finishing third. Kayla Allen of Penobscot finished in fourth with Amy Houde of W. Enfield finishing fifth.

ANDREW MCLAUGHLIN WINS IKEY DORR RACE AT 9 SPEEDWAY 95

Speedway 95Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington made it two for two as he won the annual Ikey Dorr Memorial Street Stock race at Speedway 95 for the second year in a row. This win was a lot harder than last years as Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton stayed on the inside of McLaughlin from a lap 5 restart until McLaughlin finally pulled to the lead following a red flag incident on lap 33. The pair raced side by side, swapping the lead and picking up $25.00 in lap money each time they led at the stripe. The final restart occurred on lap 33 when Bernie Thayer of Hermon exploded his motor going into turn one and rolling over after hitting the dirt berm. Pole-sitter Chris Jacobson of Seabrook N.H. and Duane Dunifer of Carmel were also eliminated from the event as they spun in Thayer’s oil and ended up on the dirt berm with Thayer. McLaughlin took the lead from Carr on that restart and led the rest of the way to the victory. Carr finished a close second with Adam Chadbourne of Woolwich right behind Carr in third. Carl McAlpine of Burnham finished fourth with Dave Brannon of Lisbon in fifth. Twenty-two of the twenty-five cars entered in the event that paid $1500.00 to the winner took the green flag. The complete finishing order was not available as this report was written.

BOB SEGER JR. TAKES BIG ENDURO SERIES WIN AT 95

Bob Seger Jr. of Frankfort started the 25 lap Big Enduro series race #2 in the 6th spot, but be the end of lap 2 was leading the pack around the 1/3 mile Speedway. Seger JR. held the lead for the remainder of the event that was stopped only once, on lap 17 when Woody Davis of Glenburn spun on the front stretch after being hit by a car he was overlapping. Alvin MacNevin of Clifton took second after also being spun by the same driver that caused the race’s only red flag. MacNevin was able to do a complete spin in front of the grandstand and continue on his way to the runner up finish. Shawn Racilla of Dover-Foxcroft placed third, followed by Woody Davis in fourth and Mike Slobuszewoki of Milo in fifth.
