WISCASSET RACEWAY RAINS OUT / WISCASSET FORD 100 RESCHEDULED

Once again mother nature crashed the party at Wiscasset Raceway. Track officials were hopeful to get in the scheduled program at "Maine's Center of Speed", but for the fourth time this season were forced to pull the plug due to a heavy blanket of drizzle and fog moving through the midcoast region. The full pre-race practice schedule was run leading up to the start of the show, but the decision was made to stop the program just prior to the 5:00pm start time with the intensity of the drizzle increasing. As a result fans missed out on their opportunity to see the True Value Modified Series in its first ever appearance at the states fastest track. The Wiscasset Ford 100 will now be rescheduled as part of the Saturday August 9th program. Plans for makeup races for track's weekly racing series divisions have not been announced. Wiscasset Raceway will next return to action Saturday July 5th at 5:00pm with action in all six weekly racing series divisions plus a huge fireworks show to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. For more information, call the Wiscasset Raceway office at (207) 882-4271 or check the track website at www.wiscassetraceway.info.

Nobody could beat the weather Sunday afternoon, but DJ Shaw managed to beat the field in a rain shortened main event at Wiscasset Raceway to capture his first career PASS Super Late Model win. Rain moved into the midcoast region at around 3:20pm just as the 31 car field completed 98 laps in the Steel's Real Rod's and Customs 125 at Maine's Center of Speed. With no end to the rain in sight and a subsequent delay of nearly an hour, the race was called and Shaw declared the winner.

THORNE EARNS SECOND LATE MODEL WIN OF SEASON AT WISCASSET

THORNE EARNS SECOND LATE MODEL WIN OF SEASON AT WISCASSET

Chris Thorne shook off his recent spate of bad luck to win the 30-lap Late Model Sportsman feature at Wiscasset Raceway on Saturday night. Thorne, the reigning track champion from Sidney, survived a restart with nine laps remaining and led the final 13 laps of the night for his second win of the season to extend his slim points lead atop the division. Coastal 200 champion Bill Whorff Jr. of Topsham finished second to Thorne, while rookie competitor Adam Chadbourne of Woolwich rounded out the top-3. Darren Ripley started on the outside pole and held off heavy pressure from Thorne before his car expired on lap 18, surrendering the lead to Thorne's No. 17 as he pulled his own car onto the pit lane. From there, Thorne opened up a nearly full-straightaway lead on Whorff. When Josh St. Clair spun on the fronstretch to bring out the third and final caution of the event, Whorff lined up to the outside of Thorne on the restart but could not capitalize. After winning the Bruce Kane Memorial on May 17th, Thorne scored a DNF at the Coastal 200 and then finished out of the top-5 on June 7.

CHUCK COLBY AND TJ WATSON PICKUP KEY WINS AT THE CENTER OF SPEED

WISCASSET RACEWAY PRESS RELEASE 6/7/08

CHUCK COLBY AND TJ WATSON PICKUP KEY WINS AT THE CENTER OF SPEED

Chuck Colby's patience paid dividends Saturday night in Wiscasset Raceway's top division. The patience wasn't what he did on the track but rather off the track leading up to Saturday night's program sponsored by Hafford's Saloon of Waterville. The third generation racer had been working on a new car leading up the the start of the 2008 season, but rather than rush to get it finished, he waited and filled the time driving a car provided by friend Norm Sherman for the first three weeks. The car was finally ready Saturday evening as Wiscasset brought the action to its first night race of the year. Colby survived a caution filled 50 lap feature for the Clark's Car Crushing Prostocks, losing the lead on two occasions, but battling back to retake the lead on lap 13 and go on to pick up the feature win.
