Tough End To Strong Speedfest Run For Theriault
Accident Collects BKR Driver While Running Inside The Top-5
CORDELE, Ga. – Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, saw a promising run get collected in someone else’s mess as he finished 13th in the ARCA/CRA Super Series Speedfest 200 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Ga., on Sunday, Jan. 27.
Theriault was among the fastest cars in two days of practice on the .400-mile oval, qualified inside the Top-10 in the 32-car field and was leading with less than 70 laps remaining in the Brad Keselowski Racing No. 29 Checkered Flag Foundation Ford Fusion when troubles hit. A broken throttle spring left him with only a quarter-throttle before a timely caution flag flew, after which he marched back inside the Top-5 only to get turned from behind in Turn 3 and effectively take him out of contention. Barre, VT – Late Model Champion Nick Sweet celebrated his second King of the Road title at the Thunder Road Banquet of Champions on Saturday, January 26 at the Barre Elks Club. Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman Champion Bobby Therrien, and Allen Lumber Street Stock Champion Nick Pilotte were also honored for their respective titles.
Sweet dominated the Late Model division in 2012, becoming just the third Late Model champion in Thunder Road’s history to win the title with four victories. The family-run team posted a nearly unbeatable 13 top tens in their 14 starts, claiming his second championship in his four-year late model career at The Nation’s Site of Excitement. Inaugural series champion claims awards at banquet; Frahm car owner champion
MANCHESTER, NH — Veteran stock car racing driver Bobby Cabral was officially crowned Granite State Pro Stock Series champion during the series’ inaugural banquet held at The Yard Restaurant in Manchester, NH on Friday, January 18.
Cabral, of Kingston, NH, claimed the series’ first championship with one win and five top-five place finishes, while never finishing lower than seventh during the season. The series championship battle went into the final race of the season, where Cabral’s third place finish netted him the series championship. (more…)
LOUDON, N.H. (Jan. 15, 2013) – Bringing an unmatched passion for motorsports and advertising, David McGrath has been promoted to vice president of marketing and promotions for New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway, officially announced the promotion today.
McGrath, 49, joined the speedway in November of 2011 as the director of advertising and promotions. He was recently voted by his peers as the speedway’s Employee of the Year for 2012.
“I’m excited for new challenges and responsibilities,” said McGrath. “This is a great opportunity and I look forward to enhancing the speedway’s marketing efforts.” (more…)
AUGUSTA, Maine – Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and Maine native Ricky Craven was presented with the 2013 Award Of Excellence on Friday, January 11, to highlight the 25th annual Northeast Motorsports Expo last weekend at the Augusta Civic Center.
“In my opinion, the Award Of Excellence is for somebody who has done a lot for motorsports in the state of Maine over the years,” said Northeast Motorsports Expo owner and promoter Steve Perry. “The things that Ricky Craven has done for the sport are really hard to put into words, but I think we all know what he’s meant to the racing community here.”
Craven, of Newburgh, Maine, won two Sprint Cup Series races in his career – at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway – and currently serves as an analyst for ESPN’s NASCAR coverage. (more…)
